North Greenbushes is a rural locality and small town of the Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes in the South West region of Western Australia. The Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes is located on the traditional land of the Bibulman (also spelled Bibbulmun or Pibelmen) and Wardandi (also spelled Wadandi) people, both of the Noongar nation. Tin was discovered around Greenbushes in 1888, which led to the development of the area as a mining location. In 1898, a train station was opened in North Greenbushes on the Donnybrook to Bridgetown railway, originally just named Greenbushes. The Wadandi, also spelt Wardandi and other variants, are an Aboriginal people of south-western Western Australia, one of fourteen language groups of the Noongar peoples. Name There are at least three theories about the meaning of the tribal ethnonym. One informant suggested it reflected a word for "crow" (''wardan''), a theory that sits poorly with early word lists that state that the Wardandi word for that bird is ''kwa:kum''.
