North Greenbush
North Greenbush is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. North Greenbush is located in the western part of the county. The population was 13,292 at the 2020 census. The town has three main hamlets, Wynantskill in the northeastern corner, Defreestville in the southern portion of the town, and Snyder's Lake which occupies the majority of the town's eastern end. Each have strong identities and hinder efforts by the town to have a centralized identity. Snyder's Lake
Snyder's Lake is a hamlet of North Greenbush in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. History The area is centered by the lake which bears its name. It is the only lake within the town of North Greenbush, and lies in an area that was once populated by the Mahicans, a Native American Tribe. Its original Mahican name is unknown. However, it was known as "Aries Lake" prior to 1897, when it was renamed for the family of Harmon Snyder, who had settled at Aires Lake during the American Revolution. Members of the Snyder family still live there. Local legend has it that Aires Lake was much smaller and became Snyder's Lake when the Snyder family dammed the lake's only outlet at the northeast corner of the lake, flooding a much larger land area. The settled area was formerly a mix of agricultural and residential zoning, with a large portion consisting of farmland. Rensselaer is a city in Rensselaer County, New York, United States, and is located on the east side of the Hudson River, directly opposite of Albany. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 9,210. Rensselaer is on the western border of Rensselaer County. Rensselaerswyck
The Manor of Rensselaerswyck, Manor Rensselaerswyck, Van Rensselaer Manor, or just simply Rensselaerswyck ( nl, Rensselaerswijck ), was the name of a colonial estate—specifically, a Dutch patroonship and later an English manor—owned by the van Rensselaer family that was located in the area that would later become the Capital District of New York in the United States. La Salle Institute is an independent, private, Catholic college preparatory school run by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Troy, New York, United States serving boys and girls in grades six through twelve. It was established by the De La Salle Brothers in 1850 and located within but operates independently of the Diocese of Albany. The Rensselaer Technology Park is a technology park in North Greenbush, New York, USA (though with a mailing address in Troy) operated by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Tri-City ValleyCats (often shortened to Cats) are a professional independent baseball team based in Troy, New York. The Tri-City name refers to the three nearby cities of Albany, Schenectady, and Troy which make up New York State's Capital District.
