North East Frontier Railway
The Northeast Frontier Railway (abbreviated NFR) is one of the 19 railway zones of the Indian Railways. It is headquartered in Maligaon, Guwahati in the state of Assam, and responsible for operation and expansion of rail network all across Northeastern states and some districts of eastern Bihar and northern West Bengal. The North Eastern Railway (abbreviated NER) is one of the 19 railway zones of Indian Railways in India. It is headquartered at Gorakhpur. Zonal Rail Training Institute (ZRTI) is established in district Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. North Eastern Railway is one of the most important transit zones, that is, it is used to take in loaded wagons, especially food grains, from Northern Railway divisions like Firozpur, and move it towards Eastern belt and the Northern Frontier region (Seven Sister States). The Oudh and Tirhut Railway was a Railway company operated in India. History On 1 January 1943, the Bengal and North Western Railway and the Rohilkund and Kumaon Railway (R&K worked) were acquired by the Government of India and they were amalgamated with the Tirhut Railway, the Mashrak-Thawe Extension Railway (BNW worked) and the Lucknow-Bareilly Railway (R&K worked) to form the Oudh and Tirhut Railway. Dibru–Sadiya Railway (DSR) ( as, ডিব্রু-শদিয়া ৰেলৱে) was one of the pioneering railway companies in British India and the first railway service of Assam in north-east India. History This metre-gauge railway was owned by ''Assam Railways and Trading Company'' (AR&TC), which was incorporated by John Berry White for transportation of Coal, Tea and public in the rapid growth of the tea industry. The first section of the line opened in 1882 from Brahmaputra River steamer ghat, Dibrugarh eastward, 15 miles. First train service had come into operation on 1 May 1882 from Dibrugarh's Mohanamukh to Jaipur. A 40 miles track between Dibrugarh and Makum was opened to traffic on 16 July 1883. Makum
Makum (IPA: mɑːkəm) is a town and a town area committee in Tinsukia district in the Indian state of Assam. It should not be mistaken for Makum Pathar (the place near Digboi where, crude oil was first struck in Asia). It is the meeting point of three premier towns of upper Assam namely Tinsukia Digboi and Doomdooma. The National Highway-37 and National Highway-38 meet at Makum.
