North Dakota Highway 5
North Dakota Highway 5 (ND 5) is a east–west state highway in North Dakota. Its route is in the extreme north part of the state, near the Canada–United States border. The eastern terminus is located about four miles (6 km) east of Joliette at the Red River where the highway continues east as Minnesota State Highway 175. The western terminus is at North Dakota's western border about west of Fortuna where the highway continues west and turns into Montana Highway 5. The highway is mostly a two-lane road. Fortuna, North Dakota
Fortuna is a city in Divide County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 30 at the 2020 census. Fortuna was founded in 1913 along a Soo Line Railroad branch line running between Flaxton, North Dakota and Whitetail, Montana. The name comes from the Roman goddess of fortune and was chosen by railroad officials to note the settlers' expectations of prosperity with the arrival of the railroad. The city is located six miles from the Canada–US border and is the northernmost city on U.S. Route 85 before it crosses into Canada at Port of Oungre, Saskatchewan. Fortuna has the latest sunset time several days after the summer solstice in the contiguous 48 states. The sun set at 10:03:10 PM Central Daylight Time (CDT) on June 24, 2016. Cavalier is the largest city in Pembina County, North Dakota, United States. It is the county seat of Pembina County. The population was 1,246 at the 2020 census. Cavalier was founded in 1875 and became the county seat in 1911. Although they bear the same name, Cavalier is not located in nearby Cavalier County. The Tongue River flows past Cavalier and Cavalier Air Force Station is located near the city. History Cavalier was laid out in 1875 on open land. Belcourt is a census-designated place (CDP) in Rolette County, North Dakota, United States. It is within the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation. The population was 1,510 at the 2020 census. The community is the seat of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Belcourt was originally known as ''Siipiising,'' which is Anishinaabe (Chippewa) for "creek that sings with life-giving water."
