''North Country'' is the third studio album by Canadian folk music group The Rankin Family. It was released by EMI on August 24, 1993. The album peaked at number 1 on the ''RPM'' Country Albums chart. A revised version was released in the United States in 1994. This version contained material from the original ''North Country'' album, 1992's ''Fare Thee Well Love'' and the '' Grey Dusk of Eve'' EP. The Rankin Family
The Rankin Family (originally known as The Rankins) are a Canadian musical family group from Mabou, Nova Scotia. The group has won many Canadian music awards, including 15 East Coast Music Awards, six Juno Awards, four Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada, SOCAN Awards, three Canadian Country Music Awards and two RPM (magazine), Big Country Music Awards. Career Background The Rankins come from a family of 12 siblings, all of whom would entertain the neighbours musically every third weekend as part of a cèilidh. The first Rankin Family band formed in the 1970s when siblings Geraldine, Genevieve, David, John Morris, and Raylene Rankin began performing at local weddings and dances in Cape Breton. I'll Tell Me Ma
"I'll Tell Me Ma" (also called "The Wind") is a traditional children's song. It was collected in various parts of the United Kingdom in the 19th century and again appears in collections from shortly after the turn of the 20th century. In Ireland, especially within Ulster, the chorus usually refers to Belfast city and is known colloquially as "The Belle of Belfast City", although it is also adapted to other Irish cities, such as Dublin. Heather Elaine Rankin (born October 24, 1967) is a Canadian singer, songwriter and actor. She is most well known as a member of the multi-platinum selling musical group The Rankin Family. Between 1989 and 1999, the family band released five full albums, a five-song EP and two compilations of their most popular songs. They toured extensively in Canada, the U.S, the U.K, Australia and New Zealand and won six Juno Awards, three Canadian Country Music Awards, an American country music Television Award and fifteen East Coast Music Awards. Combined sales of their recordings exceeded 1.5 million copies. As an actor, Rankin has performed on stages in Toronto and Halifax and has appeared in a number of films.
