North Central Austin is a colloquial term referring to an area north of downtown Austin, Texas. Definitions The City of Austin has no official definition of "North Central Austin". The Planning and Development Review Department divides Austin's core intneighborhood planning areas which mostly correspond to the boundaries of just one or two well-established neighborhood associations. The Austin Police Department has definesix area commands among them "Central West", "Central East", "Northwest" and "Northeast", none of which are recognizable as "North Central". Austin's Parks and Recreation Department in its October 6, 2010, draft of its Long Range Plan appears to have revised its planning area definition, with Planning Area 9 corresponding to an area defined by Mopac on the west, 183 to the north, I-35 to the east and 2222 to the south, plus part of the North Lamar/Georgian Acres Combined NPA north of 183, and part of the North Loop NPA south of 2222. Sustainable Neighborhoods
Sustainable Neighborhoods of North Central Austin is a civic organization based in the north central part of Austin, Texas. SN's mission is to ensure that redevelopment occurring on commercial arterials in North Central Austin is neighborhood-friendly. History According to the group's website, Sustainable Neighborhoods was founded in November 2007 by members of the VMU and land use teams of four North Central Austin neighborhood associations: Allandale, Crestview, North Shoal Creek, and Wooten. In 2009, members of the Highland Neighborhood Association also joined the organization. SN has hosted meetings with City of Austin policymakers to discuss planning of Burnet Rd, Lamar Blvd, Anderson Ln and Airport Blvd. Guests have included Council Member Chris Riley, Planning Commissioner Kathie Tovo, UT faculty, planners from the City of Austin and CapMetro, architects and developers. Allandale, Austin, Texas is a neighborhood in North Central Austin, in the U.S. State of Texas known for its large lots, mature trees, and central location. Brentwood is a neighborhood in central Austin, Texas. Brentwood comprises United States Census tracts 15.05 and 2.05, and ZIP Codes 78756 and 78757. The area is bordered by Burnet Road and Allandale to the west, North Lamar Boulevard and North Loop on the east, 45th Street and Rosedale to the south, and Justin Lane and Crestview to the north. Running through the middle of the area is a tree-lined street named Arroyo Seco, which follows a creek of the same name. The neighborhood of Brentwood in north central Austin was originally a cotton farm until the late 1940s when the City of Austin annexed the land and land was purchased to build a school, Brentwood Elementary, which opened in the early 1950s. Crestview, Austin, Texas is a neighborhood in north central Austin, in the U.S. state of Texas. Crestview is located in ZIP code 78757. The Crestview neighborhood was built by developer A.B. Beddow on the site of an old dairy farm in the 1950s and early 1960s. The Wooten neighborhood of Austin, Texas is located in north central Austin. It is bounded by Burnet Road, Anderson Lane, and Research Blvd (183) and bisected by Ohlen Road.
