North Carolina Judicial Elections, 2014
Four justices of the seven-member North Carolina Supreme Court and four judges of the 15-member North Carolina Court of Appeals were elected by North Carolina voters on November 4, 2014, concurrently with other state elections. Terms for seats on each court are eight years. Assessing the election results, Politifact writer Louis Jacobson noted that Supreme Court races in North Carolina and other states yielded "better-than-average results" for Democrats, who otherwise suffered heavy defeats across the country. "In a series of hotly contested North Carolina contests, two Democratic-leaning judges '' rvin and Hudson' prevailed, one Democrat '' easley' was leading in a very close race, and one Republican '' hief Justice Martin' was re-elected," Jacobson wrote. North Carolina Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of the State of North Carolina is the state of North Carolina's highest appellate court. Until the creation of the North Carolina Court of Appeals in the 1960s, it was the state's only appellate court. Abe Jones (politician)
Abraham Penn Jones (born March 7, 1952) is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives who has represented the 38th district (including parts of Wake County) since 2021. Jones was born in Wilson, North Carolina. He graduated from Harvard University in 1974 and went on to Harvard Law School where he earned his J.D in 1977. After returning to North Carolina, he worked for the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina and the office of the North Carolina Attorney General. Jones served on the Wake County Board of Commissioners from 1990 to 1994. Hertford is a town and the county seat of Perquimans County, North Carolina, United States. The current population of Hertford, North Carolina is 1,912 based on the 2020 census. John Arrowood
John S. Arrowood (born November 4, 1956) is an American attorney and judge. In April 2017, Arrowood was appointed to the North Carolina Court of Appeals by Governor Roy Cooper, to replace Judge Doug McCullough, a Republican who resigned one month before he would have reached the mandatory retirement age. He ran for a full term on the court in 2018 and won, becoming the first openly gay person elected to a statewide office in North Carolina. Previously, in August 2007, he was appointed to the North Carolina Court of Appeals by Governor Mike Easley, replacing Judge Eric L. Levinson, who had resigned to accept a federal appointment. Pat McCrory
Patrick Lloyd McCrory (born October 17, 1956) is an American businessman, politician and radio host who served as the 74th governor of North Carolina from 2013 to 2017. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the 53rd Mayor of Charlotte from 1995 to 2009. McCrory also served on the U.S. Homeland Security Advisory Council from 2002 to 2006 under President George W. Bush. Donna S. Stroud (born June 28, 1964) is an American lawyer and jurist who was elected to the North Carolina Court of Appeals in the November 2006 general election.
