North Carolina Highway 217
North Carolina Highway 217 (NC 217) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The highway connects the town of Linden to nearby Erwin to Fayetteville. Route description NC 217 is a two-lane rural highway that serves as a back-door road between Erwin and Fayetteville, connecting the town of Linden. In Erwin, it has a concurrency with NC 82. Also in Erwin, the highway is concurrent with North Carolina Bicycle Route 5 from the southern NC 82 intersection to J Street. History Established in 1933 as a new primary routing, it traveled from NC 21 (now U.S. Route 401 or US 401) to NC 55 (now NC 82). In 1936, it was extended north (concurrency with NC 82) to US 421/ NC 60 (now Denim Drive). In 1957 it was extended north again to its current northern terminus at US 421/NC 55. Linden is a town in Cumberland County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 130 at the 2010 census, the mayor is Frances Collier. History Ellerslie, Ivy Burne, and the Dr. Wayman C. Melvin House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography Linden is located in northeastern Cumberland County at (35.255483, -78.746744). Its northern border comes close to the Harnett County line, here formed by the Little River, a tributary of the Cape Fear River. North Carolina Highway 217 passes through the town as Linden Road and Mill Road, leading northeast to Erwin and west to U.S. Route 401. North Carolina Highway 60 (NC 60) is a primary state highway in the extreme southwestern corner of North Carolina. North Carolina Highway 21
North Carolina Highway 21 (NC 21) was a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Originally, NC 21 began at the South Carolina state line west of Fair Bluff. The highway travelled north connecting Lumberton, Fayetteville, and Lillington before ending in Raleigh. By 1926, the highway was realigned south of Fayetteville, beginning in Whiteville and running north through Elizabethtown and Dublin before reaching Fayetteville. The highway was realigned once again in 1929, replacing NC 231 from Elizabethtown to U.S. Route 17/ NC 20 near Delco and being routed north of Raleigh to US 15/ NC 75 Creedmoor. The highway traverses where the Battle of Averasborough took place and connects the towns of Erwin, Godwin and Falcon. Erwin, formerly named Duke, is a town that is located in the eastern part of Harnett County, North Carolina, United States, located approximately from Dunn and approximately from Fayetteville. The city is a part of the Dunn, NC Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is additionally a part of the greater Raleigh-Durham-Cary, NC CSA, according to the United States Census Bureau. Currently, the city has a population of 5,270 as of the 2020 census. Its current mayor is Randy Baker, who has been the mayor since being elected on May 17, 2022. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it.
