North Carolina Highway 125 (NC 125) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina that serves the communities of Williamston, Hamilton, Oak City, Hobgood, Scotland Neck, Halifax, and Roanoke Rapids. Route description The southern terminus of the route is Martin County SR 1142 (Prison Camp Road) in front of the Senator Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center. About north of its interchange with US 13 and US 64, the highway proceeds into the Williamston city limits. After leaving Williamston, NC 125 continues north to serve the small communities of Hamilton, Oak City, Scotland Neck, and Halifax. The highway has an interchange with I-95 shortly before entering its destination town of Roanoke Rapids. The route terminates at NC 48 in the downtown area. Williamston is a town in Martin County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,511 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Martin County and is located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. The closest major city is Greenville, approximately 28 mi to the southwest. History Williamston was founded in 1779, and named after William Williams, a local military commander. Williamston was the focus of activity in the civil rights movement. Beginning in June 1963, civil rights activists protested at City Hall for 29 consecutive days led by Golden Frinks. The Ku Klux Klan was very active in this part of the state during this time, including a well-documented rally in Williamston on October 5, 1963, attended by mostly local residents but with several carloads of attendees traveling over 150 miles to attend. North Carolina Highway 48 (NC 48) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina that principally connects the cities of Rocky Mount and Roanoke Rapids. The route offers an alternative to US 301 and I-95. Route description The highway beings on Falls Road at northbound U.S. Route 301 Business in Rocky Mount. A block after passing by southbound US BUS 301 it enters the neighborhood named after the road. The overlap with NC 43 begins just south of an interchange with US 64 at Exit 468B, where the street becomes Benvenue Road entering the Golden East section of the city. This interchange includes an intersection with Hunter Hill Road. A few turns later, NC 43-48 has another interchange with US 301 Bypass.
