North Arm Speedway
North Arm Speedway was the first dedicated motorcycle speedway ever built in Adelaide, South Australia and was located in the industrial suburb of Gillman, South Australia, Gillman. It was run by the Speedway Riders' Association of South Australia and ran from 1981 until its forced closure in 1997. History Early years North Arm Speedway was South Australia's first dedicated senior Solo and Sidecar track. Previous tracks (other than the Adelaide Showgrounds, Wayville Showgrounds in the late 1920s and early 1930s which ran before car speedway became popular) in both Adelaide and around the state had generally catered to both bikes and cars. Gillman, South Australia
Gillman is a predominantly industrial north-western suburb of Adelaide, in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. It is located within the federal Division of Hindmarsh and the state electoral district of Port Adelaide. Railway yards Gillman had been the site of railway marshalling yards on the Dry CreekâPort Adelaide railway line. The line was constructed through the area in 1868, leading in to Port Dock railway station. Connections were created from the yard to the industrial and port sidings on the eastern side of the Port River. In 1915, a junction to the south was added called the ''Rosewater Loop'', which connected the Dry Creek line to a new alignment of the Outer Harbor railway line through a new Port Adelaide railway station and bridge over the Port River. Murray Bridge, South Australia
Murray Bridge (formerly Mobilong and Edwards Crossing) is a city in the Australian state of South Australia, located east-southeast of the state's capital city, Adelaide, and north of the town of Meningie. Mark Carlson (speedway Rider)
Mark Gary Carlson (born 24 October 1965) was a motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. Career Carlson made his British leagues debut during the 1986 National League season, where he rode for Milton Keynes Knights. He stayed with Milton Keynes in the National League improving his average to 6.96 during the 1987 National League season. After a season with Stoke Potters he joined the Oxford Cheetahs for the 1991 British League season. In 1992, he remained with Oxford for the season and won the bronze medal at the 1992 Australian Individual Speedway Championship. Shane Parker (speedway Rider)
Shane Andrew Parker (born 29 April 1970 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a former Australian motorcycle speedway rider and a four time South Australian Champion. Currently he is riding in the Australian season at his home track of Gillman Speedway in Adelaide, and finished second in the 2012/13 South Australian Championship behind reigning champion and Speedway Grand Prix rider, Troy Batchelor. Shane Parker holds one of the unluckiest records in Australian speedway, having been the runner-up in the South Australian title on seven occasions during his career. Parker retired from riding in 2014. Craig Hodgson (8 July 1968 - 30 September 1998) was an international speedway rider from Australia. Speedway career Hodgson won the bronze medal at the Australian National Championships. The following year in 1989 he became the Australian Junior champion. Also in 1989 he finished in 10th place during the 1989 Speedway Under-21 World Championship. 1992 Australian Individual Speedway Championship
The 1992 Australian Individual Speedway Championship was the 1992 version of the Australian Individual Speedway Championship organised by Motorcycling Australia. The final took place on 26 January 1992 at the North Arm Speedway in Adelaide, South Australia. The championship was won by Mildura's Leigh Adams who won the first of his record 10 national championships. Shane Parker from Adelaide was second (and the only rider who defeated Adams on the night) with Queensland's Mark Carlson in third place. Jason Lyons, also from Mildura defeated former champion Glenn Doyle and Queensland's Tony Langdon in a run-off for fourth place to grab the last Australian qualifying spot in the 1992 Commonwealth Final in England. Australian Individual Speedway Championship
The Australian Solo Championship is a motorcycle speedway championship held each year to determine the Australian national champion. It is organised by Motorcycling Australia (MA) and is the oldest continuously running national speedway championship in the world having been run since 1926 with the exception of 1942-1945 when racing was suspended during World War II and 1955-1961 when the championship was not held. The first Australian Solo Championship in 1926 was held at the Newcastle Showground in Newcastle. It was won by American rider Cecil Brown from Mick Brennan and Roy Hindle. Legendary Danish rider Ole Olsen (1976) and Australia's own Jason Crump (2007) are the only riders who have won the championship while being the reigning Speedway World Champion.
