North American Boxing Federation
The North American Boxing Federation (NABF) is a not-for-profit regional sanctioning body that awards regional boxing titles. It is a boxing federation within the World Boxing Council (WBC). History The WBC established the NABF in 1969 as part of its creation of a variety of regional boxing federations. These regional federations would sanction championship bouts and crown regional champions. These champions would be given consideration in the world rankings put out by the WBC. The first NABF title bout was between Sonny Liston and Leotis Martin on December 6, 1969. World Boxing Council
The World Boxing Council (WBC) is an international professional boxing organization. It is among the four major organizations which sanction professional boxing bouts, alongside the World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). Many historically high-profile bouts have been sanctioned by the organization with various notable fighters having been recognised as WBC world champions. All four organizations recognise the legitimacy of each other and each have interwoven histories dating back several decades. Welterweight
Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. In most sports that use it, welterweight is heavier than lightweight but lighter than middleweight. Etymology The first known instance of the term is from 1831, meaning "heavyweight horseman," later "boxer or wrestler of a certain weight" by 1896. Atomweight
Atomweight (also referred to as light minimumweight, junior strawweight, junior mini-flyweight and pinweight) is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing In women's boxing and junior amateur boxing pinweight is, or has been, a Weight class (boxing), weight class for boxers weighing in under (before 2003, 45 kg). In September 2010 the women's class in amateur boxing was partly merged into an extended 45–48 kg light flyweight division, with women weighing less than 45 kg excluded from competition. Jared Dovan Anderson (born November 16, 1999) is an American professional boxer who held the NABF Junior heavyweight title in 2021. As an amateur he won the 2017 and 2018 U.S. National Championships. Professional career Anderson signed a multi-year promotional contract with Bob Arum's Top Rank on September 24, 2019, and made his professional debut a month later on October 26, scoring a first-round knockout (KO) victory over Daniel Infante at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada. Anderson faced Andrew Satterfield in his third professional fight, which he won by a first-round technical knockout. Shakeel Phinn (born October 31, 1990) is a Canadian professional boxer who has held the WBC– NABF and IBF North American super middleweight titles since 2019. Early life Phinn was born on October 31, 1990 in Brossard, Quebec, Canada. His father, Benjamin, was an amateur boxer. Phinn played running back at Champlain College Saint-Lambert, where he was named team offensive MVP for the 2010–11 season.
