Arthur Lionel Pugh Norrington
Sir Arthur Lionel Pugh Norrington (27 October 1899 – 21 May 1982) was a British publisher, President of Trinity College, Oxford, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, and originator of the Norrington Table. Life Norrington was born at Normandy Villa, Godstone Road, Kenley, Surrey, England, the only son and eldest child of Arthur James Norrington, a merchant in the City of London, and his wife, Gertrude Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of William Pugh, a merchant from Montgomeryshire. He was a scholar at Winchester College from 1913, where he earned the nickname Thomas because of his scepticism of received lore. In 1918, he enlisted with the Royal Field Artillery and though he did not see active service, he lost a little finger in an accident. In 1919, he matriculated as a scholar to Trinity College, Oxford, achieving a first class in classical Honour Moderations in 1920, followed by a second in '' Literae Humaniores'' in 1923. Roger Norrington
Sir Roger Arthur Carver Norrington (born 16 March 1934) is an English conductor. He is known for historically informed performances of Baroque, Classical and Romantic music. In November 2021 Norrington announced his retirement. Life Norrington is the son of Sir Arthur Norrington, and his brother is Humphrey Thomas Norrington. He studied at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Dragon School, Oxford, Westminster School, Clare College, Cambridge and the Royal College of Music under Adrian Boult among others. Norrington played the violin, and worked as a tenor through the 1960s. In 1962 he founded the Schütz Choir (later the Schütz Choir of London). Stephen Norrington
Stephen Norrington (born 1964) is an English filmmaker and special effects artist known for his work in the horror and action genres. Beginning his career as a sculptor and makeup artist, he worked under Dick Smith, Rick Baker, and Stan Winston on a number of well-known, effects-driven films of the 1980s and 90s. His directorial credits include the cult sci-fi horror film ''Death Machine'' and the comic book adaptations ''Blade'' and ''The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen''. He portrayed Michael Morbius in the alternate ending to ''Blade''. Career Norrington first worked in film as a special effects artist, doing so for several years, which included work on the films ''Alien''s and ''Split Second''. His debut as a director was in the 1994 movie ''Death Machine'' but it was directing ''Blade'' in 1998 that gained him international status as the film became a box office hit. Norrington Manor
Norrington Manor is a medieval manor house at Alvediston, about west-southwest of Salisbury, in the southern English county of Wiltshire. It is a Grade I listed building. Description Pevsner describes the house as "a lucky survival". Some features house date from the late 14th century, others from the 15th, 16th, 17th and 19th centuries. The principal walls are of dressed limestone under a tiled roof with ashlar chimneys. There is a 14th-century three-bay hall (with a later roof) and a cross passage with flanking 17th-century cross wings, and a 16th-century range at the front. A 15th-century porch to the right of the main front has a pointed archway. There is a 14th-century undercroft and a 17th-century solar at the west end of the hall. The Norrington Table is an annual ranking of the colleges of the University of Oxford based on a score computed from the proportions of undergraduate students earning each of the various degree classifications based on that year's final examinations. Overview The rankings of each college in the Norrington Table are calculated by awarding 5 points for a student who receives a First Class degree, 3 points for a 2:1, 2 for a 2:2 and 1 for a Third; the total is then divided by the maximum possible score (i.e. the number of finalists in that college multiplied by 5), and the result for each college is expressed as a percentage, rounded to 2 decimal places. Although the differences between the highest places on the table are usually slight, the top colleges remain very competitive about their rankings in the Table.
