Norrbotten NEO
Norrbotten NEO is a Swedish foremost chamber ensemble dedicated to contemporary classical music. Nordic Council Music Prize nominee. The ensemble was formed 2007 and is based in the concert hall Studio Acusticum in Piteå, Sweden. NEO regularly collaborates with contemporary composers and commission new works on a yearly basis. The repertoire includes music by composers like Henrik Strindberg, Per Mårtensson, Karin Renqvist, Klas Torstensson Klas Torstensson (born 16 January 1951) is a Swedish-Dutch composer. Contemporary classical music is classical music composed close to the present day. At the beginning of the 21st century, it commonly referred to the post-1945 modern forms of post-tonal music after the death of Anton Webern, and included serial music, electronic music, experimental music, and minimalist music. The Nordic Council Music Prize is awarded annually by NOMUS, the Nordic Music Committee. Every two years it is awarded for a work by a living composer. In the intervening years it is awarded to a performing musician or ensemble. Karin Rehnqvist
Karin Rehnqvist (born 21 August 1957) is a Swedish composer and conductor of classical music. She composes chamber music, orchestral works, music for the stage, and particularly vocal music, incorporating elements of folk music such as the vocal technique of Kulning. In 2009 she was appointed the first female professor of composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Career Rehnqvist was born in Stockholm and grew up in Nybro. She studied music pedagogy at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm from 1976 to 1980, and continued to study composition to 1984, with Gunnar Bucht, Pär Lindgren and Brian Ferneyhough, among others. Per Mårtensson (born 1967 in Östersund) is a Swedish composer and teacher. He is artistic director and teaches composition at The Gotland School of Music Composition. In 1998 he was given membership in The Society of Swedish Composers. Mårtenssons catalog contains mainly orchestral and chamber music.
