Normanby is an area in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England. A ward covering the area had a population of 6,930 at the United Kingdom Census 2011, 2011 census. Normanby by Spital is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 318, increasing to 412 at the 2011 census. It is approximately north from Lincoln, and just off the A15. The village is part of the Owmby Group of parishes. The name Normanby is from the Old English and Old Scandinavian Northman+by, or "Northman village". In the 1086 Domesday Book, the village is given as Normanebi. Normanby by Spital also has a neighbouring village called Owmby-by-Spital. St. Peter's Church dates from the 12th century and is a Grade I listed building. It is redundant and maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. It was extensively renovated in 1890 and it currently seats 100 people. Normanby Hall is a classic English mansion, located near the village of Burton-upon-Stather, north of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. History The present hall was built in 1825–30 to the designs of Robert Smirke for Sir Robert Sheffield (1786–1862). The Sheffield family had lived on the site since 1539 and the family's titles include Dukes of Buckingham and Normanby and Sheffield baronets. It replaced a previous 17th century building. John Sheffield became Duke of Buckingham and Normanby in 1703. He built a fine mansion in London called Buckingham House. His son, the second Duke sold the house to George III and it is now known as Buckingham Palace. The house was extended and altered to designs by Walter Brierley between 1906 and 1908. The Sheffield family moved out of Normanby Hall in 1963. The hall is now in the care of the North Lincolnshire Council. The former 350 acre (1.4 km2) estate around the hall is now a country park. Normanby, Ryedale
Normanby is a village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. It is about west of Pickering. It lies on the main road between Malton and Kirkbymoorside. In the old days Normanby had 14 alehouses and was a major stopping point due to its location halfway between Teesside and Humberside. These days Normanby has only one pub and a church. All the houses in Normanby are built along the busy main road. The bridge to the south of the village was built in the mid 18th century and is narrow, so in recent years it has been the scene of many accidents. The bridge takes traffic over the River Seven which runs to the east of the village on its way from Rosedale to the River Rye further south. Normanby Island is a volcanic , L-shaped island, the southernmost island in the D'Entrecasteaux Islands group. It is part of Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea.
