Norman Harold Moss (1896–1974) was Mayor of Stratford, New Zealand from 1947 to 1957. Early years He was born in Dunedin in 1896 and educated at Wellington College. After leaving college he was the first New Zealander to be employed in the Commercial Bank of Australia when it opened in Wellington in 1912.Obituary (Taranaki Herald, 1 February 1974) At 20 he resigned to join the Medical Corps and served in England and France during World War I. Auckland War Memorial Museum
The Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira (or simply the Auckland Museum) is one of New Zealand's most important museums and war memorials. Its collections concentrate on New Zealand history (and especially the history of the Auckland Region), natural history, and military history. The present museum building was constructed in the 1920s in the neo-classicist style, and sits on a grassed plinth (the remains of a dormant volcano) in the Auckland Domain, a large public park close to the Auckland CBD. Auckland Museum's collections and exhibits began in 1852. In 1867 Aucklanders formed a learned society – the Auckland Philosophical Society, later the Auckland Institute. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female.
