Norm Maginness (born 29 April 1933) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). His son, Scott also played football for Hawthorn and was a member of their 1988 and 1989 premiership winning teams. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Hawthorn Football Club
The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Scott Maginness
Scott Maginness (born 2 August 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the VFL/AFL. A half back flanker, Maginness played in the strong Hawthorn sides of the 1980s and early 1990s. He made his debut in 1988 and was a premiership player in his first two seasons. He started on Gary Ablett in the 1989 VFL Grand Final, who kicked four goals in the first quarter and a half, before the bigger and stronger Chris Langford was moved onto Ablett. Despite Ablett's dominance, kicking nine goals and winning the Norm Smith Medal as the best player, Maginness still ended up on the winning side. He is the son of former Hawthorn player, Norm Maginness. He currently works as a chiropractor.
