Norfolk State Spartans Track And Field
The Norfolk State Spartans refer to the 14 intercollegiate sports teams representing Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia, in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, cross country, tennis and track and field; women's sports include bowling, softball, and volleyball; men's-only sports include baseball and football. The Spartans compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Starting with the next NCAA baseball season in 2023, the baseball team competes as an associate member of the Northeast Conference (NEC). The MEAC merged its baseball league into that of the NEC after the 2022 season. Norfolk State University
Norfolk State University (NSU) is a public historically black university in Norfolk, Virginia. It is a member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and Virginia High-Tech Partnership. History The institution was founded on September 18, 1935 as the Norfolk Unit of Virginia Union University. Eighty-five students attended the first classes held in 1935. Mr. Samuel Fischer Scott, an alumnus of Virginia Union and Portsmouth native, served as the first director with the primary focus of maintaining the solvency of the school. Dr. Lyman Beecher Brooks, a Virginia Union alumnus, succeeded Mr. Scott as director in 1938, and served as provost, 1963–1969, and the first president 1969–1975. Norfolk State Spartans Baseball
The Norfolk State Spartans baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. The team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I and is a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC). Through the 2022 season, the Spartans had competed in the school's full-time home of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), but after that season, the MEAC merged its baseball league into that of the NEC. Lincoln Blue Tigers
The Lincoln Blue Tigers are the sports teams of Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. The Blue Tigers participate at the NCAA Division II level in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). Lincoln competed in the MIAA from 1970 to 1999 when it left due to not sponsoring a football team since 1989. The university competed in the Heartland Conference from 1999 to 2010, of which, Lincoln is a founding conference member. The school revitalized its football program and reentered the MIAA in 2010. NCAA Division II (D-II) is an intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It offers an alternative to both the larger and better-funded Division I and to the scholarship-free environment offered in Division III. 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference baseball tournament began on May 20 and ended on May 22 at Marty L. Miller Field on the campus of Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. It was a six-team double elimination tournament. Norfolk State won the tournament for the first time and claimed the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. Departing member Bethune-Cookman, which opted out of baseball competition for 2021, had claimed sixteen of the prior twenty-one tournament championships, with North Carolina A&T earning the 2005 and 2018 titles, Florida A&M winning in 2015 and 2019, and Savannah State in 2013. NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The NCAA Division I Baseball Championship is held each year from May through June and features 64 college baseball teams in the United States, culminating in the eight-team Men's College World Series at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. Tournament format The tournament is unique in that it features four tiers of competition, alternating between double-elimination brackets and best-of-three series. In fact, throughout the entire 64-team tournament, a team can lose a total of four games and still be crowned champions. During team selection, sixteen teams are given "national seeds".
