Elmshorn (; nds, Elmshoorn) is a town in the district of Pinneberg in Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. Hamburger Hochbahn AG (HHA), founded in 1911, operates the underground system and large parts of the bus system in Hamburg, Germany. History The HHA was founded by Siemens & Halske and AEG as a consortium on 27 May 1911. The first chairman was Albert Ballin. From 1919 until 1978, the HHA operated a large tram network, and from 5 December 1921 the HHA also operated the first motor buses in Hamburg. After the acquisition of the ''Straßen-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft'' (SEG) in 1919 and the ''Hamburg-Altonaer-Centralbahngesellschaft AG'' in 1923, the HHA had a rolling stock of 865 power cars and 930 trailers by 1928. The length of tracks was 217.33 km. In 1970 the length of the lines were only 82.7 km, in 1978 they were 89.5 km with 80 stations. AKN Eisenbahn GmbH operates railway lines, commuter trains and freight trains in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Its headquarters is in Kaltenkirchen. Marsh Railway
The Marsh Railway (german: Marschbahn) is a main line in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany that links the stations of Elmshorn in the south and Westerland on the island of Sylt in the north. It is part of long route from Hamburg-Altona to Westerland (Sylt) and is listed in the Deutsche Bahn timetables as . The first part of it was opened in 1845 and is one of the oldest lines in Germany. Route The Marsh Railway, as its name suggests, mainly runs through marshlands. There are also some sections of the line that run through the higher-lying geest. The line branches off the Hamburg-Altona-Kiel railway line in Elmshorn. From Elmshorn, it runs in an arc via Glückstadt to Itzehoe. Neumünster–Heide Railway
The Neumünster–Heide railway is a single-track, non-electrified railway line the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, connecting the city of Neumünster in central Holstein and Heide, the seat of the district of Dithmarschen. Geography The line leaves the Hamburg-Altona–Kiel railway north of Neumünster station. From then on, it runs west through the Geest landscape. In addition to Neumünster, it passed through the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde and Dithmarschen. The most important station on the line is Hohenwestedt. Hamburg-Altona–Kiel Railway
The Hamburg-Altona–Kiel railway ( da, link=no, Christian VIII. Østersø Jernbane) is the oldest railway line in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, and the first railway in Denmark or its dependencies at the time, and first to reach the Baltic Sea. Neumünster–Bad Oldesloe Railway
The Neumünster–Bad Oldesloe railway is an approximately 45-kilometer-long single-track, non-electrified main line in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It connects the central Holstein town of Neumünster station, Neumünster with Bad Oldesloe, the seat of the district of Stormarn (district), Stormarn. Since December 2002, passenger services on the line have been operated by ''Nordbahn Eisenbahngesellschaft''. History The line was opened on 10 December 1875 by the then Altona-Kiel Railway Company (''Altona-Kieler Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft'', AKE). In 1884, the railway company was nationalised. Until 1945, the line was considered as an extension of the Hagenow Land–Bad Oldesloe railway in Mecklenburg.
