Norah Amsellem
Norah Amsellem (born 1974) is a French opera singer who has appeared in leading soprano roles in both North America, Europe, Asia since her debut in 1995. Her discography of complete opera recordings includes ''Carmen'' (as Micaela) for Decca, ''La traviata'' (as Violetta) for Opus Arte, and '' La bohème'' (as Mimì) for Telarc. Life and career Amsellem was born in Paris. She began her musical education there, singing at the choir school of Maîtrise de Radio France as well as studying harp and piano. She then went to the United States to study under Dalton Baldwin at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. She also took singing classes with Lorraine Nubar at Juilliard. Amsellem graduated from Westminster in 1994, and that same year at 19 years old, she was one of the youngest winners of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions unanimous vote. Soprano
A soprano () is a type of classical female singing voice and has the highest vocal range of all voice types. The Teatro Comunale di Bologna is an opera house in Bologna, Italy. Typically, it presents eight operas with six performances during its November to April season. While there had been various theatres presenting opera in Bologna since the early 17th century, they had either fallen into disuse or burnt down. However, from the early 18th century, the ''Teatro Marsigli-Rossi'' had been presenting operatic works by popular composers of the day including Vivaldi, Gluck, and Niccolò Piccinni. Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House (ROH) is an opera house and major performing arts venue in Covent Garden, central London. The large building is often referred to as simply Covent Garden, after a previous use of the site. It is the home of The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. The first theatre on the site, the Theatre Royal (1732), served primarily as a playhouse for the first hundred years of its history. In 1734, the first ballet was presented. Pier Luigi Pizzi (born 15 June 1930) is an Italian opera director, set and costume designer. Biography Pizzi was born in Milan, Italy, and earned a degree in architecture at the Politecnico of Milan. Against the will of his skeptical father, he started working in the theater in 1951 with Giorgio Strehler, and then at the Teatro Tommaseo in Genoa, which he soon brought together with Giorgio De Lullo and his theater troupe ''Compagnia dei Giovani''. Later he collaborated for many years as a set and costume designer with the director Luca Ronconi on both plays and operas. The Teatro Real (Royal Theatre) is an opera house in Madrid, Spain. ''Manon'' () is an ''opéra comique'' in five acts by Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Henri Meilhac and Philippe Gille, based on the 1731 novel '' L'histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut'' by the Abbé Prévost. It was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 19 January 1884, with sets designed by Eugène Carpezat (act 1), Auguste Alfred Rubé and Philippe Chaperon (acts 2 and 3), and Jean-Baptiste Lavastre (act 4).
