Pierre Nora
Pierre Nora (born 17 November 1931) is a French historian elected to the Académie française on 7 June 2001. He is known for his work on French identity and memory. His name is associated with the study of new history. He is the brother of the late Simon Nora, a former senior French administrative professional. Education Nora is the last son of four children – the others were Simon, Jean and Jacqueline – born to Gaston Nora, a prominent Parisian urologist, and his wife, Julie Lehman. During the war, he came to know the writer Jean Prévost and Jean Beaufret, who was to become a major figure in the introduction of Heidegger's philosophy to France. Nora is an unincorporated community in Dickenson County in the southern U.S. state of Virginia. In the 2000 US census, its population is listed as 566. Nora is situated along the McClure River. Coal mining has always been the primary business for the community and county. However, in recent years natural gas production has increased sharply because it has become possible to extract gas from the underlying Huron Shale formation. The Huron Shale deposit in this part of Virginia is called the Nora Field. The Nora (russian: Нора) is a river in Amur Oblast, Russia. It is the 2nd longest tributary of the Selemdzha after the Ulma, with a length of and the first in drainage basin area, with . The name originated in "nehru", the Evenki word for "grayling". The river flows across a desolate, uninhabited area. The Lower Nora Zakaznik (Нижне-Норский заказник) is a protected area for the Siberian roe deer that was established in 2010 in the lower basin of the river.
