Noppie Koch
Longinus Johannes Norbert "Noppie" Koch (22 March 1932 – 7 December 2010) was a cyclist and pacer from the Netherlands. As a cyclist he became national champion in 1959, 1962 and 1963 and won two bronze medals at the UCI Motor-paced World Championships in 1959 and 1960, in the professionals category. He was then injured in an accident at the factory where he worked and had to retire from racing. He became a pacer in motor-paced racing, bringing Piet de Wit, Leo Proost, Martin Venix and Mattheus Pronk to the UCI Motor-paced World Championships titles. His fame as a pacemaker spread beyond the Netherlands, and he was invited to work with German and Belgian cyclists such as Dieter Kemper, Theo Verschueren and Stan Tourné. Although UCI required the pacer and the cyclist to be from the same country, Koch, together with another international pacer Bruno Walrave, successfully argued in the Dutch court to remove this rule. Theo Verschueren
Theo Verschueren (born 27 January 1943) is a retired Belgian cyclist. He had his best achievements in motor-paced racing, in which he won the world championships in the professionals category in 1971 and 1972 and finished second in 1969, 1970 and 1974. During his career Verschueren took part in 67 six-day road races, winning the race of Antwerp in 1968 and 1972. He married the daughter of Belgian cyclist Petrus Van Theemsche. He is not related to Adolph Verschueren, another motor-paced racing world champion from Belgium. Stan Tourné
Constant "Stan" Tourné (30 December 1955) is a retired Belgian cyclist. After winning the world title in points race in 1977 as amateur he turned professional and won the same title again in 1980. He also won two medals at the UCI Motor-paced World Championships in 1984 and 1986. In 1988, he finished in second place but was disqualified for failing the drug test. As a road cyclist he took part in 176 six-day races. He won seven of them, in Antwerp (1983, 1988 and 1992), Paris (1985), Ghent (1985, 1989) and Cologne (1988), and 21 times finished in second place. He is married to Ingrid Leleu (b. 1957). Their eldest daughter, Romy Tourné (b. 1980), is married to a Congolese-Belgian man and has a daughter Nina Tshikoyo. Dieter Kemper
Dieter Kemper (11 August 1937 – 11 October 2018) was a German cyclist who competed professionally between 1961 and 1980. During his career he won one UCI Motor-paced World Championships in 1975, seven European titles Stayer.de and 26 six-day racing, six-day road races. He finished three times in third place at world championships, in motor-paced racing and individual pursuit disciplines. Before starting to train in cycling in 1957 he was a successful water polo player with SV Westphalia in Dortmund. In 1961 he started in the Tour de France but had to withdraw early due to a crash. He had another bad crash on 5 December 1976 during a motor-paced race in Cologne, when he was hit hard in the head and spent nine days in a coma. After retiring from cycling he moved to No ...
