Noordeen Hadjiar Mohamed Abdul Cadder
Noordeen Hadjiar Mohamed Abdul Cadder (known as N. H. M. Abdul Cadder) (10 February 1879 – 29 August 1938) was a Ceylonese (Sri Lankan) lawyer and legislator. He was an unofficial member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon representing the Muhammadan community. Born in Colombo to Noordeen Hajiar, his family claimed ancestry to Arabs who settled in the costal town of Beruwala. His brother was the success gen merchant Noordeen Hajiar Abdul Caffoor, who built the Gaffoor Building in Colombo Fort. Abdul Cadder was educated at Wesley College, Colombo and qualified as a Proctor and Notary Public in 1907. He was a pioneer of the cinema business. In 1908, Abdul Cader was elected to the Colombo Municipal Council from the Pettah Ward and remained a member for the next thirty years, mostly returning uncontested. Sri Lankan Moors ( ta, இலங்கைச் சோனகர், translit=Ilaṅkaic Cōṉakar; si, ලංකා යෝනක, translit=Lanka Yonaka; formerly Ceylon Moors; colloquially referred to as Sri Lankan Muslims) are an ethnic minority group in Sri Lanka, comprising 9.2% of the country's total population. Most of them are native speakers of the Tamil language who also speak Sinhalese as a second language. They are predominantly followers of Islam. Zahira College (commonly known as Zahira) ( si, සහිරා විදුහල, ta, சாஹிரா கல்லுரி) is an Islamic school at Colombo in Maradana, Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1892 as Al Madrasathul Zahira by notable Islamic lawyer and educationalist, Muhammad Cassim Siddi Lebbe, with the active patronage of Ahmed Orabi Pasha of Egypt. The college also has one of the oldest mosques in the country on its campus. Colombo Municipal Council
The Colombo Municipal Council is the municipal governing body of Colombo, the largest city and financial centre in Sri Lanka. It consists of a directly elected executive Mayor of Colombo, current elect is Rosy Senanayake, and 119 elected 119 municipal councilors. The council was formed in 1865, it first met in 1866 and derives most of its powers from ''Municipal Council Ordinance No. 29 of 1947''. It is the oldest and the largest local government authority in Sri Lanka which covers a resident population of over 600,000 (as of 2001). It is one of the largest employers in the country with over 12,000 employees. Council Colombo is a charter city, with a Mayor Council form of government.
