Nominingue, Quebec
Nominingue is a small village and municipality located north of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in the Laurentian Mountains. It was formerly called Lac-Nominingue, but changed name on September 16, 2000. Nominingue is located along Route 117, between Mont-Laurier and Rivière-Rouge, and is near the International Airport of Rivière-Rouge/Mont-Tremblant. It is surrounded by dozens of lakes, including Petit and Grand Lac Nominingue, Lac des Grandes Baies, and Lac Sainte-Marie, as well as a forest. It is near Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve and Rouge-Matawin Wildlife Reserve. The village was established in the late 1880s by pioneers sent by Curé Labelle to develop this mountainous and wild region. It was once the last station of the famous " P'tit train du Nord" (Little train of the North), until it was extended to Mont-Laurier in 1909. Parc Linéaire Le P'tit Train Du Nord
The Parc Linéaire Le P'tit Train du Nord is a multiuse recreational rail trail located in Quebec, Canada. It runs through the Rivière du Nord valley. It originally was a railway line operated by Canadian Pacific Railway which operated it at a continuous financial loss since its construction in the 1890s. During the 1990s, it was dismantled to make way for a recreational multi-use trail except for the portion between Montréal and Saint-Jérôme which is still in service as the Saint-Jérôme line. Prior to decommissioning, passenger traffic on this line was so scarce that it gave way to the humorous and intricately philosophical and poetic song by Felix Leclerc, "Le train du nord". Antoine Labelle
François-Xavier-Antoine Labelle (November 24, 1833 – January 4, 1891) was a Roman Catholic priest and the person principally responsible for the settlement (or "colonization") of the Laurentians. He is also referred to as "Curé Labelle" and sometimes, the "King of the North." Biography He was born Antoine Labelle in Sainte-Rose-de-Lima, the son of Angélique Maher (documents vary as some have Mayer and others have Maillet) and Antoine Labelle, who were quite poor. He studied at the Sainte-Thérèse seminary. Little is known about the first years of his life but it is known that he liked to read Auguste Nicolas and Joseph de Maistre. The Rouge-Matawin Wildlife Reserve (French: ''Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin'') is a Quebec Wildlife Reserve located to the north of Mont-Tremblant National Park, in Quebec, Canada. Geography This reserve covers unorganized of Lac-de-la-Maison-de-Pierre in the Antoine-Labelle Regional County Municipality. Territory of the reserve straddles under the administrative regions of Lanaudière and Laurentides. Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve
Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve is a reserve in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, Canada, stretching across the Laurentides and Outaouais regions. The area was extensively logged in the late 19th to the mid-20th century. Although logging still continues on a smaller scale, the reserve was created in 1971 to provide outdoor recreation opportunities while favouring wildlife conservation. In harmony with its mandate to ensure the sustainability of resources and to foster the rational use of its territory, the reserve pursues wildlife and fish development activities by setting up spawning grounds, tree groves, interpretation trails, and nesting boxes. Lac Sainte-Marie
Lac is the resinous secretion of a number of species of lac insects, of which the most commonly cultivated is ''Kerria lacca''. Cultivation begins when a farmer gets a stick that contains eggs ready to hatch and ties it to the tree to be infested. Thousands of lac insects colonize the branches of the host trees and secrete the resinous pigment. The coated branches of the host trees are cut and harvested as sticklac. The harvested sticklac is crushed and sieved to remove impurities. The sieved material is then repeatedly washed to remove insect parts and other material. The resulting product is known as seedlac. The prefix ''seed'' refers to its pellet shape. Seedlac, which still contains 3–5% impurity, is processed into shellac by heat treatment or solvent extraction. Rivière-Rouge (English translation: Red River) is a city located in the Antoine-Labelle Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 4,631. History As part of the 2000–2006 municipal reorganization in Quebec, the city was created on December 18, 2002 by the amalgamation of the villages of L'Annonciation, La Macaza, Sainte-Véronique, and Canton Marchand. After a referendum in 2004, La Macaza regained its independent status on January 1, 2006 but remains part of the Urban agglomeration of Rivière-Rouge.
