Nombuyiselo Gladys Adoons (born 18 August 1978) is a South African politician who is a Member of Parliament (MP) for the African National Congress. Parliamentary career In 2019, she stood for election to the South African National Assembly as 3rd on the African National Congress's North West regional list. At the election, Adoons won a seat in the National Assembly. She was sworn in on 22 May 2019. On 27 June 2019, she became a member of the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from nine provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality. 2019 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 8 May 2019 to elect a new President, National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. These were the sixth elections held since the end of apartheid in 1994 and determined who would become the next President of South Africa. Incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa led the ruling African National Congress, with the party attempting to retain its majority status and secure Ramaphosa a full term in office as president; his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, resigned from office on 14 February 2018.
