Noke is a culinary term used by the Māori of New Zealand to refer to earthworms, some types of native worms (called ''noke whiti'' and ''noke kurekure'' in Māori) are historically local delicacies reserved for chiefs because of their sweet flavour which was said to "remain in the mouth for two days". Another notable kind of worm, the ''noke waiū'' (possibly ''Octochaetus multiporus'') was prized as eel fishing bait due to its large size and bioluminescence. ''Noke'' has more recently become a popular trend at certain New Zealand wild food festivals, where it is often served in modern fusion dishes such as worm sushi and chocolate truffles with crystallized worm. Noke, Oxfordshire
Noke is a small village and civil parish in Oxfordshire about northeast of Oxford. It is on the southeast edge of Otmoor and is one of the "Seven Towns of Otmoor". The toponym is derived from Old English and means "at the oak trees". The parish still has two woodlands: Prattle Wood about southwest of the village, and Noke Wood about to the southeast. Noke had a parish church by 1191 but the present Church of England parish church of Saint Giles dates from the first half of the 13th century. At the end of the 16th century a mortuary chapel was added for the Winchcombe family on the north side of the church, but in 1745 the chapel was in a ruinous condition and was demolished. Noke Parochial School was built in 1863. It was reorganised as a junior school in 1931 and closed in 1946. Billy Noke
Billy Noke is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played for the St. George Dragons, Brisbane Broncos, South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Western Suburbs Magpies. He played primarily in the back row. He is the cousin of Kyle Noke. Career He starred in the unbeaten Australian Schoolboy Tour of England in 1979 before being a member of the premiership winning St. George Dragons Presidents Cup team in 1981. He was then graded by St George in 1982 as an import (there was a local junior/import rule at the time with each club being limited to a number of imported players) Noke, took a risk doing this as one more year in the local junior's competition would have given him local junior status. Charles Noke
Charles John Noke (1858 Worcester - 27 May 1941), was an English pottery designer and artist who primarily worked for Royal Doulton. History He is noted for producing many different ranges of pottery using differing techniques and was also hugely influential in helping Doulton establish itself as a world leader. After he joined Doulton in 1889 he became the Art Director and was able to affect all aspects of production at the Burslem site and in doing so instigated a revolution in both design and production turning Doulton into the leading art manufacturer of the age. Noke's greatest achievement was the creation of a range of experimental transmutation glazed wares that are at best as good as anything produced at Sèvres, Copenhagen, Dresden or even in the Far East. Kyle Noke
Kyle Noke (born 18 March 1980) is an Australian retired mixed martial artist who competed as a Welterweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. A professional competitor since 2002, Noke has also fought for EliteXC. Background Noke, originally from Dubbo, in New South Wales, competed in various sports growing up including rugby, and began training in mixed martial arts in 2002. Noke also worked in security; guarding "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, Noke serving as Irwin's bodyguard for three years during Irwin's heyday as host of the Australian-based nature show. Noke's job was eventually changed to train "The Crocodile Hunter" between filming sessions. Noke and another bodyguard worked with Irwin on boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling. Tikiko Noke is a Fijian rugby league footballer for the Ravoravo Rabbitohs and the Kaiviti Silktails. who represented Fiji at the 2013 World Cup. Early years Noke attended Lautoka Central College. Playing career From the Lautoka Crushers in the Fiji National Rugby League Competition, Noke was selected as part of the Fijian squad for the 2013 World Cup in Great Britain. He did not play in any matches for Fiji at the tournament but, following the tournament, turned down an offer to join the Rochdale Hornets, instead opting to train with the Newcastle Knights under-20s squad. Noke was selected for Fiji for the 2015 Melanesian Cup and started at prop in the 22-10 victory over Papua New Guinea. He was one of only three domestic based players in the Fijian team.
