Noise Pop Festival
Noise Pop Festival is an annual week-long music and arts festival that takes place throughout the San Francisco Bay Area produced by Noise Pop. From 1993 to 2020, and then resuming in 2022, Noise Pop Festival has provided exposure to some emerging artists, many of which have gone on to widespread acclaim, including The White Stripes, Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, The Flaming Lips, The Shins, Fleet Foxes, Bright Eyes and Yoko Ono. History Noise Pop Festival began in 1993 as a "5 bands for 5 dollars show" at the Kennel Club (later renamed the Independent). Tickets were $5 and although it was only one day, it was called the S.F. Noise Pop Festival. It has expanded to a nine-day festival across nearly every major and independent venue in San Francisco This festival went on hiatus in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. San Francisco Bay Area
The San Francisco Bay Area, often referred to as simply the Bay Area, is a populous region surrounding the San Francisco, San Pablo, and Suisun Bay estuaries in Northern California. Chixdiggit
Chixdiggit ( ) is a Canadian pop punk band formed in Calgary, Alberta. The band performed internationally, and released a number of studio albums, mainly with light-hearted pop songs, usually about girls and relationships. History In 1990 K.J. Jansen, Mark O'Flaherty and Mike Eggermont started selling T-shirts imprinted with the Chixdiggit logo at their high-school, although at this stage the band did not exist. Sales of the shirts provided the band with enough money to purchase a drum kit. However, none of the band members had any musical experience nor did any of the members own instruments (except O'Flaherty who owned a classical guitar). Eggermont took up playing bass and Jansen took up playing guitar as well as becoming the lead vocalist for the band. Actionslacks is an American indie rock band formed in 1994 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The band has long been associated with the region's noise pop scene. History Actionslacks formed in Northern California's East Bay in 1994 when ex-Pillbox members Tim Scanlin and Mark Wijsen met drummer Marty Kelly and discovered a mutual appreciation of late-70s English punk rock, 1980s American post-punk and guitar-based New Zealand indie rock. The band played one gig in Berkeley, California under the name King Friday but changed their name after Scanlin realized he "just couldn't be in a band named after a puppet." The band soon became a regular on the San Francisco and West Coast club circuit and released the "Tugboat Mutiny" b/w "A.C.R.O.N.Y.M." 7-inch single on their own Permanent Records imprint. Jawbreaker is an American punk rock band active from 1986 to 1996, and again since 2017. The band is considered to be extremely influential to the 1990s emo and punk genre with their "poetic take on hardcore," as cited by James Monger of ''AllMusic''. Overall, critics have cited Jawbreaker as the best punk rock band of the 1990s. Lead vocalist and guitarist Blake Schwarzenbach, bassist Chris Bauermeister, and drummer Adam Pfahler formed the band while students at New York University, later relocating to Los Angeles where they released their debut album '' Unfun'' (1990) through independent record label Shredder Records. Inch was an American post-hardcore band formed in San Diego, California, in 1992. The group was founded by former Sub Society vocalist Michael "Stimy" Steinman, guitarist Mike Paprocki, drummer Dave Hepler, and bassist Jeff Reese. Inch released three albums during the 1990s until their disbandment in 1999. After being involved with numerous other bands, frontman Steinman had died in 2010. History Inch was formed in 1992 by Michael "Stimy" Steinman, Jeff Reese, Dave Hepler, and Michael Paprocki. Engine were a British boogie rock band formed in July 1979 in Birkenhead, near Liverpool, England. They had a three-piece line-up throughout their career, featuring Pete Wade ('Wad') on vocals and guitar, Roy Hughes ('Yozzer') on bass guitar and backing vocals and Dave Cornes ('Ape') on drums. Creeper Lagoon
Creeper Lagoon is a San Francisco indie-rock band originally started by Sharky Laguana as a solo project in 1991. They are currently on Laguana's digital record label, Neglektra. History Sharky Laguana and Ian Sefchick both played in the Cincinnati, Ohio, punk band The Rottweilers while in high school. In 1990, Laguana moved out to San Francisco with his four-track and started Creeper Lagoon as a solo project. Sefchick moved to San Francisco some years later, did a brief stint with The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and then reunited with Laguana in Creeper Lagoon. The lineup was rounded out by bassist Geoffrey Chisholm and drummer Patrick Mangan (who was later replaced by David Kostiner).
