Noir Désir
Noir Désir (, "Black Desire") was a French rock band from Bordeaux. They were active during the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, and have had two albums certified double platinum in France and three certified gold. They have been an influence on numerous French musicians including Cali, Louise Attaque and Miossec. While active, the band consisted of Bertrand Cantat (vocals, guitar), Serge Teyssot-Gay (guitar), Jean-Paul Roy (bass guitar) and Denis Barthe (drums). History Formation: 1980–1985 Bertrand Cantat and Serge Teyssot-Gay met in 1980 at secondary school after Cantat moved to Bordeaux from his hometown in Normandy; Teyssot-Gay was 17 years old and Cantat 16. Rambouillet
Rambouillet (, , ) is a subprefecture of the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France region of France. It is located beyond the outskirts of Paris, southwest of its centre. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Since the mid-1950s, the bass guitar has largely replaced the double bass in popular music. The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. It is usually held flat against the player's body and played by strumming or plucking the strings with the dominant hand, while simultaneously pressing selected strings against frets with the fingers of the opposite hand. Christophe Miossec is a French singer and songwriter born in Brest, Brittany, France on December 24, 1964. Beginnings Christophe Miossec was not new to the world of music when he met his first great success. Between 14 and 17, he was in a teenage band, ''Printemps Noir'' ("Black Spring"), touring around Brest. After obtaining his ''Baccalauréat'' in literature, Miossec went to study history at the Brest University, and quickly got bored. He then worked some time for the paper ''Ouest France''. Journalism didn't suit him any better than history did, so he moved to Paris, and went from one little job to another for some time. He finally joined the French TV Station TF1 and worked there for two and a half years. Eventually, he began to think about turning back to music. Louise Attaque
Louise Attaque () is a French chanson/folk rock band founded in 1994. Several of the group's albums were produced by Gordon Gano, lead singer of Violent Femmes, a band whom Louise Attaque often cites as an influence and for whom their own band is named. The band is signed to the Atmosphériques record label. History Caravage (1990-1994) Lead singer and guitarist Gaëtan Roussel and bassist Robin Feix met in high school in Montargis. They moved to Paris after graduation where they met drummer Alexandre Margraff and formed a rock band named Caravage (after the Italian painter Caravaggio). Bruno Caliciuri (born 28 June 1968), better known as Cali, is a French singer-songwriter. Biography Cali was born 28 June 1968 in Perpignan to an Italian father and Catalan mother. He grew up in Vernet-les-Bains. A fan of English rock and French chanson during his youth, Cali was also a keen rugby player. He played for his region and Perpignan (USAP). Inspired by a U2 concert in 1984, Cali devoted himself more to music and less to rugby. At the age of 17, Cali discovered punk music in Ireland. Serge Teyssot-Gay (; born 16 May 1963, in Saint-Étienne, Loire) is a French musician, he has been the guitarist of rock group Noir Désir until 29 November 2010. He met the other members of the band at their school in Bordeaux (Lycée Saint-Genès) during the 1980s.
