Noel Alford
Noel Alford (11 August 1932 – 18 April 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Alford joined North Melbourne from University High and worked his way up from the thirds, where he won a Morrish Medal in 1950. A rover, Alford played with North Melbourne for two seasons, in 1952 and 1953. He was third in their goal-kicking in each of those years. In July, 1954 he was cleared to Williamstown where he played 12 games and kicked 20 goals, including the 1954 VFA premiership and then in 1955, he played with Traralgon in the Latrobe Valley Football League The Gippsland League (formerly known as the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball league in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. ''The Argus'' was an Australian daily morning newspaper in Melbourne from 2 June 1846 to 19 January 1957, and was considered to be the general Australian newspaper of record for this period. Widely known as a conservative newspaper for most of its history, it adopted a Left-wing politics, left-leaning approach from 1949. ''The Argus''s main competitor was David Syme's more liberal-minded newspaper, ''The Age''. History The newspaper was originally owned by William Kerr, who was also Melbourne's town clerk from 1851–1856 and had been a journalist at the ''Sydney Gazette'' before moving to Melbourne in 1839 to work on John Pascoe Fawkner's newspaper, the ''Port Phillip Patriot''. The first edition was published on 2 June 1846.
