''Nocturnal Symphony'' was the demo album that Gus G. recorded with his friends as a showcase for his talents to attract a record deal under the pseudonym of Firewind. However Firewind wasn't formed as a band until after Gus had toured and recorded with Dream Evil, Nightrage, and Mystic Prophecy almost four years later. A demo (shortened from "demonstration") is a song or group of songs typically recorded for limited circulation or for reference use, rather than for general public release. A demo is a way for a musician to approximate their ideas in a fixed format, such as cassette tape, compact disc, or digital audio files, and to thereby pass along those ideas to record labels, producers, or other artists. Firewind
Firewind is a Greek power metal band formed in Thessaloniki in 1998. The group is currently signed to Century Media Records and was originally a small project created by guitarist Gus G. to showcase his demo, ''Nocturnal Symphony'', in 1998. Firewind later became a full band over three years later when they recorded their debut album, '' Between Heaven and Hell''. To date, the band has released nine studio albums and has been met with international success. Power Metal
Power metal is a subgenre of heavy metal combining characteristics of traditional heavy metal with speed metal, often within symphonic context. ''Between Heaven and Hell'' is Firewind's first album released in 2002 through Massacre Records in Europe, Leviathan Records in the US, EMI in Japan and Rock Brigade in South America. Gus G
Kostas Karamitroudis (born 12 September 1980), better known as Gus G, is a Greek heavy metal guitarist. He currently plays with his band Firewind. He has also played in Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage, Arch Enemy, Dream Evil and Ozzy Osbourne's band. Biography Early life Konstantinos was born on 12 September 1980 in Thessaloniki. His father was a part-time singer who sang Greek folk music at bars and taverns. He was also a fan of rock music. He was introduced to bands like Pink Floyd, Santana and the Eagles by his father's album collections. Dream Evil
Dream Evil is a Swedish heavy metal band, assembled by producer Fredrik Nordström in 1999. History Producer Fredrik Nordström had the ambition of creating a power metal band of his own for a long time, but had difficulty finding anyone with musical ideals similar to his own. However, while on holiday in the Greek islands during the year of 1999, Nordström met the young guitarist Gus G (from Firewind). The musicians got along quite well, despite an age difference of over a decade. Plans for a band commenced – Gus had already been planning to relocate to Gothenburg, and upon his arrival he looked up Fredrik at Studio Fredman to begin writing. Nightrage is a Greek/Swedish melodic death metal band originally from Thessaloniki. They later re-located to Gothenburg, Sweden. History Formation and ''Sweet Vengeance'' (2000–2003) Nightrage was founded by Marios Iliopoulos and his close friend Gus G in June 2000. They made three demos from 2001 to 2002. Their debut album, '' Sweet Vengeance'', was released in 2003 and featured drummer Per Möller Jensen (The Haunted), and bassist Brice Leclercq. Mystic Prophecy
Mystic Prophecy is a power metal band from Bad Grönenbach, Germany. Their sound is described as hard and melodic, similar to American power metal bands such as Iced Earth, due to their melodic riffing and powerful drumming. History The band was formed in 2000 by Valley's Eve bandmates R.D. Liapakis and Martin Albrecht. Gus G was recommended to them by David T. Chastain and played all guitars on the three first albums, but left in 2005 in order to spend more time on his own band Firewind. Matthew Robert Scurfield (born March 10, 1976 in Sarnia, Ontario) is a Canadian-born American musician and songwriter from Massachusetts. He is a drummer and a notable figure in the progressive rock scene. His professional work includes studio work, touring and live performances. Matt Scurfield has recorded and/or toured with Jaye Foucher, Joe Stump, Event, Matahari, Gus G, Lita Ford, Gary Hoey, Chad Hollister Band, and Sonic Joyride Scurfield graduated in 1998, with a degree in Professional Music, from Berklee College of Music.
