No Knife
No Knife was a band from San Diego, California. They played an innovative form of rock that combined aspects of math rock, post-hardcore, and other indie rock. The band's original lineup was Mitch Wilson (vocals/guitar), Brian Desjean (bass), Aaron Mancini (guitar/vocals), and Ike Zaremba (drums). Prior to their second full-length, the band replaced Mancini with Ryan Ferguson (guitar/vocals). After their first and second full-lengths, '' Drunk on the Moon'' (1996) and '' Hit Man Dreams'' (1997), Chris Prescott was enlisted to play drums. The group went on to release two more full-lengths: '' Fire in the City of Automatons'' (1999) and '' Riot for Romance!'' (2002). No Knife often toured with Jimmy Eat World. Pinback is an American indie rock band from San Diego, California. The band was formed in 1998 by singers, songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Armistead Burwell Smith IV and Rob Crow, who have been its two consistent members. They have released five studio albums and several other releases. History and origin The band's moniker is a reference to a character in the 1974 film '' Dark Star'' (played by Dan O'Bannon, who also co-wrote the film), directed by John Carpenter. Audio samples from this film are used frequently in the band's early works. In 2004, Pinback signed to Touch and Go Records. They released their third album, ''Summer in Abaddon'', later that year. Ryan Ferguson (born ) is an indie rock guitarist and singer-songwriter, formerly of Southern California band No Knife. In 2004 he contributed the acoustic track "Wait for Me There" to the compilation album ''San Diego Is Burning''. Ferguson's solo debut ''Three, Four'' was released in July 2005, winning a San Diego Music Award for "Best Pop Record" that year. The Casbah (music Venue)
The Casbah is a nightclub and music venue located near downtown San Diego, California. History The Casbah was first opened in 1989 by Tim Mays, Bob Bennett and Peter English at the site of a former Irish pub at 2812 Kettner Boulevard. The three men also owned the now-defunct Pink Panther Club. The Casbah hosted San Diego bands such as Rocket from the Crypt, Lucy's Fur Coat, Trumans Water, Three Mile Pilot, Creedle, Heavy Vegetable, Fluf, Inch, Crash Worship and Deadbolt. It also hosted bands such as Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins. English later left the venture. Because the original site had a maximum occupancy of 75 people, in 1994 the Casbah moved to a larger facility at 2501 Kettner Boulevard, the site of former club "Bulc". The new location has a maximum occupancy of more than 200. The club usually hosts live music six to seven nights each week.
