No Exit (song)
"No Exit" is a song by the American new wave band Blondie. It was the title track from their seventh studio album in 1999 and was released as a single in Europe, but not the US. Overview A "gothic hip hop" track "No Exit" features rapper Coolio exchanging raps with Debbie Harry. It also uses an interpolation of Johann Sebastian Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" and Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King". The single was released in the UK as a special tour souvenir CD. The released CD contains remixes of "No Exit", "Maria", "Nothing Is Real but the Girl" and a cover of Karen Young's 1978 disco hit " Hot Shot". A video was released for one of the "No Exit" remixes, which also featured rappers Inspectah Deck, U-God of Wu-Tang Clan, Havoc and Prodigy of Mobb Deep as "The Loud Allstars". Blondie is an American Rock music, rock band co-founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The band was a pioneer in the American New wave music, new wave scene of the mid-1970s in New York. Their first two albums contained strong elements of Punk rock, punk and new wave, and although highly successful in the UK and Australia, Blondie was regarded as an underground music, underground band in the U.S. until the release of ''Parallel Lines'' in 1978. "In the Hall of the Mountain King" ( no, I Dovregubbens hall, , In the Dovre man's hall, link=no, italic=no) is a piece of orchestral music composed by Edvard Grieg in 1875 as incidental music for the sixth scene of act 2 in Henrik Ibsen's 1867 play ''Peer Gynt''. It was originally part of Opus 23 but was later extracted as the final piece of ''Peer Gynt'', Suite No. 1, Op. 46. Its easily recognizable theme has helped it attain iconic status in popular culture, where it has been arranged by many artists (See Grieg's music in popular culture). The English translation of the name is not literal. Dovre is a mountainous region in Norway, and "gubbe" translates into (old) man or husband. Andrew Kahn (born July 23, 1952), frequently credited as Andy Kahn, is a music composer, arranger and producer who was most active in the dance and disco scene in the late 1970s. In 1978, he wrote and produced Karen Young's song, " Hot Shot", for West End Records. The song entered into many of ''Billboard's'' sixteen regional Disco Action charts in July, August and September of that year, reaching the number one spot in ''Billboard's'' national Disco Action Top 40 chart on August 5, 1978, for two weeks. Mobb Deep was an American hip hop duo from New York City. The duo consisted of rappers Prodigy and Havoc. They are considered to be among the principal progenitors of hardcore East Coast hip hopEdwards, Paul, 2009, ''How to Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC'', Chicago Review Press, p. 323. and hip hop in the mid-1990s. Lamont Jody Hawkins (born November 10, 1970), better known as U-God, is an American rapper and member of the hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan. He has been with the group since its inception, and is known for his deep voice and rhythmic flow that can alternate between gruff and smooth.
