Nise Monogatari
''Nise Monogatari'' (仁勢物語, occasionally 似勢物語) is a Japanese '' kana-zōshi'' written in the early Edo period by an unknown author. Genre ''Nise Monogatari'' is a work of the ''kana-zōshi'' genre. It was written as a parody of the famous Heian period romantic poem tale the ''Ise Monogatari'', specifically the '' rufubon'' (popular) text containing 125 short episodes. Authorship and date The author of ''Nise Monogatari'' is unknown. The late-Edo period author speculated that it was the early Edo ''waka'' poet and Noh playwright , but modern scholars reject this theory. Kanazōshi
describes a type of printed Japanese language, Japanese book that was produced primarily in Kyoto between 1600 and 1680. The term literally means “books written in ''kana''” (''kana'' being the phonetic Japanese syllabary that is simpler to read and write than ''kanji'', or Chinese ideographs). The designation thus derives from the fact that the text of these books was written either entirely in ''kana'' or in a mixture of ''kana'' and ''kanji''. ''Kanazōshi'' are considered to be a transitional genre, bridging the gap between medieval Romance (heroic literature), romances and the first high point of Edo period (1600-1868) literature, the ''ukiyozōshi'' composed by Ihara Saikaku (1642–93).
