Nir Oz Massacre
On 7 October 2023, as part of the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, surprise attack on Israel, Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip, led by Hamas, invaded the Nir Oz kibbutz in Southern District (Israel), southern Israel. They killed scores of kibbutz residents, burned homes, and abducted civilians. According to the Israeli military, up to 150 militants participated in the massacre. Per ''The New York Times'', it was thought that 180 of the roughly 400 residents were killed or abducted as 2023 Israel–Hamas war hostage crisis, hostages during the attack. ''The Jerusalem Post'' also estimated 80 abductions in Nir Oz. An account by veteran war correspondent Itai Anghel reported that "around a quarter of the people of Nir Oz were assassinated, kidnapped, or injured in a very severe way. 2023 Hamas Attack On Israel
A series of coordinated attacks, led by the Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas, from the Gaza Strip into bordering areas in Israel, commenced on 7 October 2023, a Sabbath day and date of several Jewish holidays. Hamas meticulously planned for a massacre of Israeli civilians with the goal of provoking Israel to invade Gaza.
