Nippon Golden Network (ニッポンゴールデンネットワーク, abbreviated NGN) is a cable television network broadcasting Japanese programs in Hawaii, United States. It is viewable in 4 islands in Hawaii (Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Hawaii) and California. Some of their shows have English subtitles. The network has three channels at the moment, NGN (Japanese dramas, musical and variety shows, documentaries and educational programs), NGN2 (Japanese programs from NHK via TV Japan) and NGN3 (subtitled, classic and modern Japanese movies). Oshin
is a Japanese serialized morning television drama (''asadora''), which originally aired on NHK from 4 April 1983 to 31 March 1984; it is the 31st ''asadora'' overall to be produced. The 297 15-minute episodes follow the life of during the Meiji period up to the early 1980s. In the work, Shin is called ''Oshin'', an archaic Japanese cognomen. It was one of the country's most watched serials of all time and has aired in 68 other countries, with subtitles ranging from English to Arabic. In 1984, the earlier episodes of the drama (focused on young Oshin) were made into an animated movie by Sanrio. The movie reused Sugako Hashida's scripts, and Ayako Kobayashi, who played young Oshin, did Oshin's voiceover. KIKU (channel 20) is a multicultural independent television station in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, serving the Hawaiian Islands. It is owned by Allen Media Group alongside ABC affiliate KITV (channel 4). The two stations share studios on South King Street in downtown Honolulu; KIKU's transmitter is located in Nānākuli. History Prior history of the KIKU callsign in Honolulu Although the station advertises on-air that it has been on the air for "over 40 years," the "current KIKU" is not to be confused with another station in Honolulu on VHF channel 13 that formerly used the KIKU call letters. Katsu Goto
(née Kobayakawa) (1862–1889) was a Japanese merchant, interpreter, and lynching victim. He was the leader of a fledgling Japanese community in Honokaa. Early years Goto was born in Kokufu-mura, Naka District, Kanagawa Prefecture. He was the eldest son of Izaemon Kobayakawa. He had three brothers and two sisters. After receiving an education, Goto worked as a city employee at the Port of Yokohama. It was there that he learned the English language. Career On February 8, 1885, he came to the Kingdom of Hawaii as a government contract laborer aboard the SS ''City of Tokio''. He was part of the first shipload of Kanyaku Imin; 25 more shiploads arrived over the next decade. (''Choshichiro's Edo Diaries'') was a long-running prime-time television series in Japan. The title character was Matsudaira Choshichiro Nagayori, the son of Tokugawa Tadanaga. The premise of the show focuses on Tadanaga's death as a result of an alleged plot to overthrow his elder brother, the third shōgun Tokugawa Iemitsu. Choshichiro lives among the commoners in the shogunal capital city of Edo. Kōtarō Satomi portrayed Choshichiro throughout the series. Plot During the reign of the third shōgun Tokugawa Iemitsu, an exalted personage who was his nephew disobeyed the shōgun's wish and left shogunate services. The Fierce Battles Of Edo
is a Japanese jidaigeki or period drama that was broadcast in 1979. It aired on Nippon Golden Network as The Fierce Battles of Edo. This drama was inspired by Akira Kurosawa's 1954 film '' Seven Samurai'' and produced by the same film company. The lead stars are Keiju Kobayashi and Shigeru Tsuyuguchi.
