Niphon of Kafsokalyvia or Niphon Kausokalybites ( el, Όσιος Νήφων Καυσοκαλυβίτης, 1316–1411) was a Greek Christian Orthodox saint and monk. Nephon II or Nifon II, ( el, ), (? – 11 August 1508), born ''Nicholas'', was Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople three times: from 1486 to 1488, from 1497 to 1498 and for a short time in 1502. USS ''Niphon'' was a steam operated vessel acquired by the Union Navy during the American Civil War. She was used by the Navy to patrol navigable waterways of the Confederacy to prevent the South from trading with other countries. ''Niphon'', a wooden and iron screw steamer launched at Boston, Massachusetts, in February 1863, delivered to the Navy at Boston on 22 April 1863; and commissioned at Boston Navy Yard on 24 April 1863, Acting Ensign Joseph B. Breck in command; and was formally purchased 9 May 1863. The ara (''Niphon spinosus''), otherwise known as the saw-edged perch or the Dageumbari (다금바리) is a species of marine ray-finned fish from the monospecific genus ''Niphon'' which is in the monotypic tribe of the Niphonini which is part of the subfamily Epinephelinae of the family Serranidae, the groupers and sea basses. It is found in the Western Pacific Ocean from Japan south to the Philippines where it inhabits rock reefs and inshore waters with rocky sea beds, This species can grow up to in total length. The tribe Niphonini is the sister to the other four tribes of Epinephelinae and it has been posited that it represents a basal lineage within this subfamily.
