Nina Eik-Nes
Nina Eik-Nes, née Nina Lange Dahler (5 January 1900 – 22 May 1997) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. She served as a deputy representative to the Norwegian Parliament from Nord-Trøndelag during the terms 1945–1949 and 1950–1953. She lived in Sparbu at the time. She was a prominent member of the Norwegian Women's Public Health Association, especially during World War II. Among others, she helped set up a field hospital at Mære School of Agriculture during the Norwegian Campaign. The field hospital was not used as such, but the equipment was stored, secretly kept away from German occupying forces by Eik-Nes and portioned out later. The work of Eik-Nes and her organization became especially important in 1944, when the liberation of Northern Norway and the Wehrmacht's subsequent scorched earth tactic meant that thousands of people fled south, needing help from the Women's Public Health Association. The Liberal Party ( no, Venstre, lit=Left, V; se, Gurutbellodat) is a centrist political party in Norway. It was founded in 1884 and it is the oldest political party in Norway. It is positioned in the centre on the political spectrum, and it is a liberal party which has over the time enacted reforms such as parliamentarism, freedom of religion, universal suffrage, and state schooling. For most of the late 19th and early 20th century, it was Norway's largest and dominant political party, but in the postwar era it lost most of its support and became a relatively small party. Kristen Eik-Nes
Kristen Borgar Dahler Eik-Nes (28 September 1922 – 23 February 1992) was a Norwegian medical scientist, known for his contributions to androgen research. He was born at the village of Sparbu (now Steinkjer) in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. He was the son of Nina Eik-Nes and Knut Eik-Nes. As a young boy he suffered from serious illness which delayed his education. During the German occupation of Norway he was a member of Milorg, and eventually a regional Milorg leader. He graduated from the medical program at the University of Oslo in 1951. He was appointed professor at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City from 1958, and later at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Magne Oftedal
Magne Oftedal (10 March 1921 - 26 May 1985) was a Norwegian linguist who carried out a large amount of comparative research on Scottish Gaelic dialects, the Celtic languages and Spanish. He was born in Sandnes in the county of Rogaland in 1921 and began studying for a degree in philology at the University of Oslo, but his studies were interrupted by the Second World War and he only managed to complete his degree in 1947. During his time at the University of Oslo, he studied the Gaelic of Lewis between 1949 and 1954, publishing his first important paper, ''The village names of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides'', in 1954. He was subsequently awarded a doctorate for his research into the Gaelic dialect of Leurbost, published as ''The Gaelic of Leurbost'' in 1956. Throughout his career his main focus remained the phonology and place-names of Gaelic, Welsh and Norwegian. Knut Eik-Nes
Knut Eik-Nes (21 July 1885 – 18 January 1968) was a Norwegian priest and cultural worker. He was born in Sauda as a son of merchant Christian Sigbjørn Næss and Eli Eik. He finished his secondary education in Stavanger in 1910, and studied briefly at Oxford University. He graduated with the cand.theol. degree in 1915, and worked in the Diocese of Nidaros from the same year. From 1920 to 1955 he was vicar in Sparbu; from 1935 he doubled as vicar and dean of Nord-Innherred deanery. He was also chairman of the cultural association Noregs Ungdomslag from 1936 to 1947, except for the years 1940 to 1945 when Nazi Germany occupied Norway. During his time as chairman, the association arranged summer meetings attended by 100,000 people in total. While studying, he had been a board member of the university branch of Noregs Mållag; in 1911 and the autumn of 1913.
