Nils Middelboe
Nils Middelboe (5 October 1887 – 21 September 1976) was a Danish amateur track and field athlete and football player as well as a football referee and leader. He represented the Denmark national football team at the 1908, 1912 and 1920 Summer Olympics, winning silver medals in 1908 and 1912. He was the first ever goalscorer for the Danish national football team, when he scored in Denmark's debut game at the 1908 Summer Olympics. In 1913, he moved abroad to play for English club Chelsea, and became the first foreign player to ever represent the club. Personal life Middelboe was an amateur footballer throughout his career. He was a qualified lawyer and during his time at Chelsea he was employed at a bank in London. He would have gained thrice the salary as solely a professional footballer than he did as a banker-cum-amateur footballer, but he was (in his own words) "by no means mad about football". 1912 Summer Olympics
The 1912 Summer Olympics ( sv, Olympiska sommarspelen 1912), officially known as the Games of the V Olympiad ( sv, Den V olympiadens spel) and commonly known as Stockholm 1912, were an international multi-sport event held in Stockholm, Sweden, between 5 May and 22 July 1912. Twenty-eight nations and 2,408 competitors, including 48 women, competed in 102 events in 14 sports. With the exception of tennis (starting on 5 May) and football and shooting (both starting on 29 June), the games were held within a month with an official opening on 6 July. It was the last Olympics to issue solid gold medals and, with Japan's debut, the first time an Asian nation participated. Stockholm was the only bid for the games, and was selected in 1909. The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Kristian Middelboe
Kristian Middelboe (24 March 1881 in Brunnby, Sweden – 20 May 1965) was a Danish amateur football (soccer) player and leader. Playing in the defender position, he won a silver medal with the Danish national team in the 1908 Summer Olympics football tournament. He was head of the Danish Football Association 1935-1940 and again 1948-1950. He was the brother of fellow international Nils Middelboe. Kristian Middelboe played his club football with Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (KB), making his debut in 1898. He made his debut in the first Danish national team ever, the 9-0 win against the French B-team at the 1908 Olympics. He played in the first four games of the Danish national team from 1908 to 1910. Einar Middelboe
Einar Middelboe (25 September 1883 – 31 December 1968) was a Danish footballer who played as a midfielder for Kjøbenhavns Boldklub. He was one of the listed players of the Danish football squad that competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics, but did not play in any of the matches at the competition. He is the brother of Kristian Middelboe and Nils Middelboe, both of which played for the Danish national team. Early life Einar Middelboe was born as the son of painter Bernhard Middelboe and his wife Hilda Horndahl. He had one sister and three younger brothers, including Kristian and Nils. When Einar was 8 years old in 1891, the Middelboe family moved from Brunnby in Scania to Frederiksberg in Copenhagen, and on 26 February 1910 he became a Danish citizen. Holmen Cemetery (Danish: Holmens Kirkegård) is the oldest cemetery still in use in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was first located next to the naval Church of Holmen in the city centre but relocated to its current site on Dag Hammarskjölds Allé in the Østerbro district in 1666. The cemetery originally served as a burial site for indigent sailors in royal service and their families, complementing the military Garnisons Cemetery, from 1711 located on a neighbouring site.
