Nils Foss
Nils Foss (11 May 1928 – 16 May 2018) was a Danish civil engineer and business executive. He was the founder of Foss A/S, a Danish family owned company, established in 1956. The Nils Foss Excellence Prize is named after him. Early life and education Foss was born into a family of well-known civil engineers in Copenhagen. His paternal grandfather, Alexander Foss, had been a co-owner and central figure in FLSmidth from 1887. Foss attended Gentofte Statsskole and graduated as a civil engineer from the Technical University of Denmark in 1952. Career After his graduation, Foss was initially employed at Torben Søderberg in Denmark as Sales engineer. Thereafter he went to the United States where he worked for Tracerlab Inc in Boston and Donner Scientific Co. in California. After his return to Denmark, in 1956, he founded FOSS Electric A/S (now FOSS Analytical A/S), with his father Erling Foss. FOSS is a global provider of high-tech analytical solutions used mainly in the agricultural and food industries. The company is headquartered in Hillerød, Denmark. History FOSS was founded by Nils Foss in 1956 as N. Foss Electric A/S. The first products were instruments used in the testing of moisture in grain. They were followed by analytical solutions for the dairy industry. In 1997, FOSS acquired Perstorp Analytical AB with the subsidiaries Tecator AB and NIRSystems Inc. Nils Foss was CEO of the company until 1990 when the position was taken over by his son Peter Foss. In 2011, Torben Ladegaard was appointed to CEO while Peter Foss became chairman of the company. Ladegaard was succeeded by Kim Vejlby Hansen as CEO in 2016. Operations FOSS is headquartered in Hillerød where a new Foss Innovation Centre was inaugurated in 2014. The Conservative People's Party ( da, Det Konservative Folkeparti, DKF), also known as The Conservatives () is a conservative centre-right political party in Denmark. The party is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and International Democrat Union. History The party was founded in 1916 based mostly on its predecessor, Højre ("Right") after its downfall, but also on the Free Conservatives and a moderate faction of the liberal party Venstre. Danish Refugee Council (DRC) ( da, Dansk Flygtningehjælp) is a private Danish humanitarian nonprofit organization, founded in 1956. It serves as an umbrella organization for 33 member organizations. Formed after the Second World War in response to the European refugee crises caused by the Soviet invasion of Hungary in 1956, DRC has been active in large scale humanitarian projects around the world. Through convoy operations DRC was responsible for delivering half of the international humanitarian aid in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the wars of independence in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s.
