Nilo Acuña
Nilo Humberto Acuña Bordaborria (26 September 1943 – 29 August 2004) was a professional footballer who played in the Uruguayan Primera División and Mexican Primera División. Career Born in Montevideo, Acuña played as a forward. He began playing for Liverpool de Montevideo, before joining Peñarol in 1967. He won consecutive Uruguayan league titles in 1967 and 1968, and helped the club reach the 1970 Copa Libertadores final in his first stint with the club. In 1972, Acuña moved to Mexico to join Monterrey for three seasons. He returned to Uruguay to finish his career with Peñarol. After he retired from playing, Acuña became a football coach. He was a member of Jorge Fossati's staff which led LDU Quito to the 2003 Ecuadorian league title. Nilo Alcala is a Filipino-American composer and 2019 The American Prize Winner in Composition. He is the first Philippine-born composer to be commissioned by Grammy winner Los Angeles Master Chorale, and also to receive the Aaron Copland House Residency Award. Nilo Cruz is a Cuban-American playwright and pedagogue. With his award of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play ''Anna in the Tropics'', he became the second Latino so honored, after Nicholas Dante. Biography Early years Cruz was born in 1960 to Tina and Nilo Cruz, Sr. in Matanzas, Cuba. The family immigrated to Little Havana in Miami, Florida, in 1970 on a Freedom Flight, and eventually naturalised to the United States. His interest in theater began with acting and directing in the early 1980s. He studied theater first at Miami-Dade Community College, later moving to New York City, where Cruz studied under fellow Cuban María Irene Fornés. Fornes recommended Cruz to Paula Vogel who was teaching at Brown University where he would later receive his M.F.A. in 1994. Cruz is openly gay. Nilo Murtinho Braga, best known as ''Nilo'' (April 3, 1903 – February 7, 1975) was an association footballer in forward striker role. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During his career (1918–1937) he played for América-RN, Fluminense and Botafogo. He won six Rio de Janeiro State Tournament, four consecutives (1924, 1930, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935) and for three time winning top goalscorer in 1924, 1927 and 1933. For Brazilian team he participated in the 1930 FIFA World Cup, played one match with Yugoslavia. He died at 71 years old. Nilo Procópio Peçanha (; 2 October 1867 – 31 March 1924) was a Brazilian politician who served as seventh president of Brazil. He was governor of Rio de Janeiro (1903–1906), then elected the fifth vice president of Brazil in 1906.
