Nile Water
''Nile Water'' (French: ''L'eau du Nil'') is a 1928 French drama film directed by Marcel Vandal and starring Jean Murat, Max Maxudian and Lee Parry. Originally made as a silent film, it subsequently had a musical soundtrack added to it. It was the first French sound film, shot using a system owned by Gaumont. However, the system never took off and American and German technology came to dominate.Kindem p.197 The film's sets were designed by the art director Fernand Delattre. Marcel Vandal
Marcel Vandal (1882–1965) was a French film producer. During the 1910s he worked closely with the German producer Erich Pommer for the French company Elcair. Vandal served in the French Army during the First World War. He directed four silent films between 1926 and 1928. Gaumont Film Company
The Gaumont Film Company (, ), often shortened to Gaumont, is a French film studio headquartered in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. René Lefèvre, born René Paul Louis Lefèvre, (6 March 1898 – 23 May 1991) was a French actor and writer. Throughout his career, he worked with several notable directors, like Jean Renoir, Jean-Pierre Melville, Jules Dassin, and René Clair. Career Lefèvre made his debut in the 1920s when he acted in numerous films in small roles. His first film of note was ''Le Million'', directed by René Clair in 1931. He later had the fortune of starring in the title role in ''The Crime of Monsieur Lange'', directed by Jean Renoir. He kept appearing in films until the late 70s, landing a small role in Jean-Pierre Melville's ''Le Doulos'' in 1962. He died in 1991 in Poissy.
