Nikolaj Plads
Nikolaj Plads (literal translation, lit. "Nicolas' Square") is a public square located at the foot of the former Kunsthallen Nikolaj, St Nicolas' Church (Danish: Nikolaj Kirke), just off Strøget, in the Old Town of Copenhagen, Denmark. Most of the buildings that line the square date from the rebuilding of the surrounding neighbourhood in the years after the Copenhagen Fire of 1795. The square is a quiet alternative to the much busier squares Amagertorv and Højbro Plads. The former church houses an exhibition space and a restaurant with outdoor service and a small playground is also located at the site. History St. Nicolas' Church was established in the 13th century. A graveyard was located on its eastern side. Other properties at the site belonged to Church of Our Lady, Copenhagen, Church of Our Lady, Roskilde Cathedral and Our Lady's Abbey in Sorø. Indre By (lit. English, "Inner City"), also known as Copenhagen Center or K or Downtown Copenhagen, is an administrative district (''by'') in central Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Christian Frederik Hansen
Christian Frederik Hansen (29 February 1756 – 10 July 1845), known as C. F. Hansen, was the leading Danish architect between the late 18th century and the mid 19th century, and on account of his position at the Royal Danish Academy of Art (''Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi'') the most powerful person in artistic circles for many years. Carlsberg Foundation ( da, Carlsbergfondet) was founded by J. C. Jacobsen in 1876, by allocating some of his shares in the Carlsberg Brewery to fund and operate the Carlsberg Laboratory and the Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Palace. The Albertina Foundation (Danish language, Danish: Legatet Albertina) was a philanthropic foundation created by Carl Jacobsen in 1879 with the aim of installing sculpture in the public realm, particularly in the parks, of Copenhagen, Denmark. Andreas Johannes Kirkerup (9 June 1749 – 22 October 1810) was a Danish architect and master builder, one of the most significant pupils of Caspar Frederik Harsdorff. Together with architects such as Andreas Hallander and Johan Martin Quist, he played a major role in the rebuilding of Copenhagen after the Great Fire of 1795.
