Nikola Stoychev
Nikola Georgiev Stoychev was a Bulgarian Lieutenant-General who fought in World War II. Biography He was born on October 13, 1891, in Kostenets. He began serving in the Seventh Artillery Regiment. In 1928 he was an artillery instructor at the Reserve Officers' School. The following year he became commander of the Second Divisional Artillery Regiment, and from 1931 he was commander of the Third Divisional Artillery Regiment and worked in the artillery division at the State Military Factory. In 1934 he became head of the artillery department of the Fourth Military Inspection District. In the period 1936 - 1941 he was an inspector of artillery. Between August 1941 and January 1943, he was commander of the Third Bulgarian Army. Kostenets
Kostenets ( bg, Костенец ) is a town in Sofia Province in southwestern Bulgaria, and the administrative centre of the Kostenets Municipality (which also contains a separate village of Kostenets). The town is situated at the foot of Rila Mountain, about southeast of capital Sofia. The average monthly and annual air temperature at daylight varies from -4.2C (January) to +16.1C (July). The abundance of mineral springs is one of the special characteristics of the region. The spa resort of Momin Prohod is a specialised centre for rehabilitation and recreation and attracts many visitors. The Bulgarian Third Army was a Bulgarian field army during the Balkan Wars, World War I, and World War II. Balkan Wars After 1907, during times of peace, the territory of Bulgaria was divided into three army inspectorates, each one comprising three divisional districts. During war they formed three independent field armies. The Third Army Inspectorate, which had its seat in Ruse, Bulgaria, Ruse, formed the headquarters of the Third Army. People's Court (Bulgaria)
The People's Court ( bg, Народен съд) was a special court of Communist Bulgaria, set up outside the operations of the constitutional frame of law. The court was established after the Bulgarian coup d'état of 1944. The court verdicts started on 1 February 1945, sentencing to death, with no right of appeal, 3 regents, 8 royal advisors, 22 cabinet ministers, 67 MPs from the 24th Ordinary National Assembly of Bulgaria, and 47 generals and senior army officers. Overall, the Court tried 135 cases with 11,122 accused. A total of 9,155 people were sentenced. Of these 2,730 to death, and 1,305 to life sentences. It remains unknown how many executions were carried out. In 1996, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Bulgaria repealed some of the People's Court sentences due to "lack of evidence".
