Colonel General Nikandr Evlampievich Chibisov (russian: Никандр Евлампиевич Чибисов; November 5 ( O.S. October 24), 1892 in stanitsa Romanovskaya (Rostov Oblast) – 20 September 1959 in Minsk) was a Soviet military commander and Hero of the Soviet Union (1943). In popular culture General Fotii Kobrisov, the protagonist of the 1994 novel ''The General and His Army'' by Georgi Vladimov, was based on Chibisov. The book focused on the Battle of Moscow (1941) and the Battle of Kiev (1943). Georgy Sofronov
Georgy Pavlovich Sofronov (russian: Георгий Павлович Софронов; 19 April 1893 – 17 March 1973) was a Soviet general. He fought for the Imperial Russian Army during World War I and fought for the Workers and Peasants Red Army during the subsequent Civil War. He was made a Kombrig (brigade commander) in 1935 and a Komkor (corps commander) in 1937. During Operation Barbarossa, he defended the city of Odessa against the forces of Nazi Germany and Romania. Yakov Timofeyevich Cherevichenko (russian: Я́ков Тимофе́евич Черевиче́нко; 12 October 1894 – 4 July 1976) was a Soviet military leader and colonel general. The Second Battle of Kiev was a part of a much wider Soviet offensive in Ukraine known as the Battle of the Dnieper involving three strategic operations by the Soviet Red Army and one operational counterattack by the Wehrmacht, which took place between 3 November and 22 December 1943. Following the Battle of Kursk, the Red Army launched the Belgorod-Kharkov Offensive Operation, pushing Erich von Manstein's Army Group South back towards the Dnieper River. Georgi Nikolayevich Vladimov (russian: Гео́ргий Никола́евич Влади́мов; real family name Volosevich, russian: Волосевич; 19 February 1931, Kharkiv – 19 October 2003, Frankfurt) was a Russian dissident writer.
