Beta Leporis
Beta Leporis (β Leporis, abbreviated Beta Lep, β Lep), formally named Nihal , is the second brightest star in the constellation of Lepus. Nomenclature ''Beta Leporis'' is the star's Bayer designation. It is also known by the traditional named ''Nihal'', Arabic for "quenching their thirst". The occasional spelling ''Nibal'' appears to be due to a misreading. In 2016, the International Astronomical Union organized a Working Group on Star Names (WGSN) to catalog and standardize proper names for stars. The WGSN's first bulletin of July 2016 included a table of the first two batches of names approved by the WGSN; which included ''Nihal'' for this star. In Chinese, (), meaning ''Toilet'', refers to an asterism consisting of β Leporis, α Leporis, γ Leporis and δ Leporis. Consequently, the Chinese name for β Leporis itself is (), "the Second Star of Toilet". [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Nihali Language
Nihali, also known as Nahali or erroneously as Kalto, is a moribund language isolate that is spoken in west-central India (in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra), with approximately 2,000 people in 1991 out of an ethnic population of 5,000. The Nihali tribal area is just south of the Tapti River, around the village of Tembi in Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Speakers of the Nihali language are also present in several villages of the Buldhana district in Maharashtra such as Jamod, Sonbardi, Kuvardev, Chalthana, Ambavara, Wasali, and Cicari. There are dialectal differences between the Kuvardev-Chalthana and the Jamod-Sonbardi varieties. The language has a very large number of words adopted from neighboring languages, with 60–70% apparently taken from Korku (25% of vocabulary and much of its morphology), from Dravidian languages, and from Marathi, but much of its core vocabulary cannot be related to them or other languages, such as the numerals and words for "blood" and "egg". ...
