"Nightmare" is an episode of the original '' The Outer Limits'' television show. It first aired on 2 December 1963, during the first season. Introduction A group of space troopers are psychologically tortured in an alien prisoner-of-war camp. Opening narration Plot In response to an unprovoked nuclear attack from the planet Ebon, a group of soldiers–representing Unified Earth–is sent to fight the enemy on their alien world. Captured en route to Ebon, the soldiers undergo physical and psychological torture and interrogation at the hands of the Ebonites, who possess the ability to control physical abilities and senses. The prisoners become suspicious of each other when their captors claim they have received cooperation in obtaining military secrets, which is further complicated by each one's past and ethnic origins, along with the unexpected appearance of high-ranking Earth officers among the hostile aliens. ''The Outer Limits'' is an American television series that was broadcast on ABC from September 16, 1963, to January 16, 1965, at 7:30 PM Eastern Time on Mondays. It is often compared to ''The Twilight Zone'', but with a greater emphasis on science fiction stories (rather than stories of fantasy or the supernatural). It is an anthology of self-contained episodes, sometimes with plot twists at their ends. In 1997, the episode "The Zanti Misfits" was ranked #98 on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time. It was revived in 1995, until its cancellation in 2002. In April 2019, a new revival was stated to be in development at a premium cable network. Paul Stader
Paul Stader (February 13, 1911 – April 10, 1991) was an American actor, assistant director and stuntman. Life and career Stader was born in Neosho, Missouri. He attended at the University of Kansas, where he played football and practiced swimming. Stader then moved to California, in which he would join the swimming team for the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. He swam for the Summer Olympics, but didn't make it. While participating at the Summer Olympics, Stader became friends with 400-meter freestyle gold medal winner Buster Crabbe and actor, Johnny Weissmuller. He then was a lifeguard in Santa Monica, California. Stader began his film career in 1937, when he appeared in the film '' The Hurricane'', doing 70-foot, 97-foot and 100-foot highdives. Lillian Adams (May 13, 1922 – May 25, 2011) was an American actress who appeared in over 100 film and television roles. Benjamin Huntington Wright (5 May 1915 — 2 July 1989) was an English actor. He was best known for playing Herr Zeller in ''The Sound of Music''. He also played numerous roles in famous films and worked as voice actor, having roles in animated films by Disney Studios. Early life Ben Wright was born on 5 May 1915 in London to an American father and an English mother. At the age of 16, he entered the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Bernard Kates (December 26, 1922 – February 2, 2010) was an American actor on television, in movies and on the stage. Serving as a bomber pilot during World War II, Kates earned an Air Medal with three clusters and a Distinguished Flying Cross.
