Nightcliff Football Club
The Nightcliff Football Club, nicknamed, Tigers, is a member club of the Northern Territory Football League, and is based in the Darwin suburb of Nightcliff. Club achievements * note: Nightcliff finished on top in the 1974/75 season after when it got cancelled after Round 11. History The club was formed in 1950. It was formally known as Working & Housing. Michael McLean was coach in 2005/06. Steve Easton was coach for the 2006/07 season. Nightcliff Football Club has competed in the NTFL competition in Darwin, Northern Territory since it entered as the Works & Housing team in 1950. The Home and Away season commences in October with Finals played in March the following year. The Club has its own home ground at the Nightcliff Oval (Darwin Mazda Oval) situated adjacent to the Nightcliff Sports Club. Anthony Corrie
Anthony Corrie (born 22 June 1984 in Darwin,) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who had a 56-game Australian Football League (AFL) career. Regarded as of the most talented under 18s in the country, he was named All-Australian and won the Harrison Medal at the Under 18 National Championships 2002, attracting the attention of AFL talent scouts. The Brisbane Lions recruited him in the 2002 AFL Draft from the Southern Districts Football Club. In 2004 he made his AFL debut with the Brisbane Lions against West Coast. Of indigenous heritage, he began playing junior football with the Nightcliff Football Club in the Northern Territory and represented the Northern Territory Thunder side. Corrie suffered a setback when he broke his jaw in round 12 in a collision with Essendon Football Club's Dustin Fletcher. A finger injury once again proved to be a setback to his career. Jason Roe
Jason Roe (born 13 March 1984) is an indigenous and former Australian rules football player for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Originally playing for Nightcliff Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL), then the Cairns City Cobras in the 2001–2002 seasons, Roe was selected in the 2002 rookie draft by the Collingwood Football Club and placed on its rookie list. He was delisted at the end of 2003 having not played an AFL game, and moved to South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club North Adelaide. He was given a second chance at AFL level and was placed on the Brisbane Lions rookie list in the 2006 rookie draft. Roe was delisted by Brisbane following the 2009 season, after playing 50 AFL games. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. The league currently consists of 18 teams spread over five of Australia's six states (Tasmania being the exception). Michael McLean (footballer)
Michael "Magic" McLean (born 3 March 1965) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Footscray Football Club, Brisbane Bears and Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life McLean was born and raised in the Northern Territory and played both rugby league and Australian football at junior levels. His father, from Queensland pushed for Michael at fifteen years of age to pursue a career in rugby league, however, he decided to continue playing Australian football. McLean played his first senior league with the Nightcliff rugby league club but also played Australian football for the Nightcliff Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League where he was eventually scouted by the Footscray Football Club to play professionally.
