Night Of The Shooting Stars
''Night of the Shooting Stars'' is a 2001 album by Canadian rock band Rheostatics, released on Perimeter Records. It is the band's first traditional studio album since 1996's ''The Blue Hysteria''. It is also Don Kerr's final album with the band. Two songs on the album are new versions of songs that appeared on earlier albums. "Song of the Garden" first appeared on 1999's ''The Story of Harmelodia'', and "The Junction Foil Ball" appeared on 1998's ''The Nightlines Sessions''. Rheostatics
Rheostatics are a Canadian indie rock band. They were formed in 1978, and actively performed from 1980 until disbanding in 2007. After a number of reunion performances at special events, Rheostatics reformed in late 2016, introducing new songs and performing semi-regularly. Although they had only one Top 40 hit, "Claire" in 1995, they were simultaneously one of Canada's most influential and unconventional rock bands, a band whose eclectic take on pop and rock music has been described both as iconic and iconoclastic. The Blue Hysteria
''The Blue Hysteria'' is a 1996 album by Rheostatics. "Bad Time to Be Poor", a protest song about life in Ontario during the government of Mike Harris, was the album's first single. The band also contributed this song to the compilation album '' GASCD'' in 2001 to support citizen media and social justice groups in protesting the Quebec City Summit of the Americas. To support the album, the band were invited on tour as the opening act for The Tragically Hip. At the beginning of the Hip's 1997 live album '' Live Between Us'', singer Gordon Downie acknowledges the Rheostatics, and towards the end of the album, Downie works a verse from "Bad Time to Be Poor" into "Nautical Disaster". The 1997 Rheostatics album '' Double Live'' also partially documents the band's tour with the Hip. Tim Vesely
Tim Vesely (born 10 December 1963) is a Canadian musician and songwriter. He is best known as a founding member of the indie rock band Rheostatics, in which he shared vocal duties with bandmates Dave Bidini and Martin Tielli. Vesely wrote much of the band's conventionally pop and rock-oriented material, including both of the band's most successful singles, "Claire" and "Bad Time to Be Poor". Vesely announced his departure from the Rheostatics on 8 September 2006. He played his final show with the band on 30 March 2007 at Massey Hall. Dave Bidini
Dave Bidini (born September 11, 1963) is a Canadian musician and writer. Originally from Etobicoke, Ontario, he was a founding member of the rock band Rheostatics, and currently performs with Bidiniband. In addition, he has published several books about music, travel and sports, and has written feature journalism pieces and columns for numerous Canadian magazines and newspapers. He is the only Canadian to have been nominated for all three of Canada's main entertainment awards, the Gemini Award for television work, the Genie Awards for film work and the Juno Awards for music, as well as being nominated on Canada's national book awards program, ''Canada Reads''. Martin Tielli
Martin Tielli is a Canadian singer-songwriter. He was a member of the Rheostatics, and has also released material as a solo artist and with the side project Nick Buzz. As well, he has appeared as a guest musician on albums by Barenaked Ladies, Kevin Hearn, The Waltons, Jane Siberry, Ashley MacIsaac, Meryn Cadell and Mia Sheard. He is also a painter, and created most of the album covers for the Rheostatics. Tielli's siblings include brothers Doug Tielli and John Tielli and sister Sara Tielli. The brothers were members of the band People From Earth. Martin co-produced People From Earth's 1997 album, ''Luvskull'', with the band and Don Kerr. The Nightlines Sessions
''The Nightlines Sessions'' is a 1998 album by Rheostatics. The album was recorded as a live session for the final episode of CBC Stereo's late night music program ''Night Lines'', hosted by David Wisdom. It is a largely tossed-off and improvised affair, showing the band indulging their silly sides. It is an enjoyable diversion for fans, but even the band acknowledges that casual listeners will likely find it weird and unlistenable. The session aired on August 31, 1997. One song from the session, "Stolen Car", had appeared on an earlier Rheostatics album (1997's '' Double Live''). Another song, "The Junction Foil Ball", was rerecorded for the later '' Night of the Shooting Stars''.
