Nigeria Hockey Federation
The Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) is the governing body of field hockey in Nigeria. It is affiliated to IHF International Hockey Federation and AHF African Hockey Federation. The headquarter of NHF is in Abuja, Nigeria. Engineer Obadiah Simon Nkom is the President of NHF and Chimezie Asiegbu is the Secretary General. FIH is a governing body, which is responsible for certifying a Hockey Field/Ground. Currently there are no FIH Certified Fields in Nigeria. The Nigeria Hockey men's national team made history in January at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana finishing third at the tournament after a 4-2 win against Kenya. It was their first ever podium finish at the Africa Cup of Nations. It was held from the 27 March to 5 April 1981 at the CeNARD in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 2016–17 Women's FIH Hockey World League was the third edition of the women's field hockey national team league series and last season of the World League. The tournament started in April 2016 in Singapore and finished in November 2017 in Auckland, New Zealand. The Semifinals of this competition also served as a qualifier for the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup as the 10/11 highest placed teams apart from the host nation and the five continental champions qualify. The Netherlands won the tournament's Final round for a record second time after defeating host nation New Zealand 3–0 in the final match. The 2019 Women's African Olympic Qualifier was the fourth edition of the African qualification tournament for the women's field hockey event at the Summer Olympics. It was held alongside the men's tournament in Stellenbosch, South Africa from 12 to 18 August 2019. The winner of the tournament qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics. The 2015 African Olympic Qualifier was the third edition of the African Olympic Qualifier for Men and Women. It was held from 23 October to 1 November 2015 in Randburg, South Africa. Nine teams competed in the men's and seven in the women's tournament. The winner of the tournament qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics. On 30 October South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) published a statement reiterating that it will not consider qualifying though the continental qualifying tournament acceptable. The 2007 African Olympic Qualifier was the first edition of the African field hockey qualification tournament for the Summer Olympics for men and women. It was held from 14 to 22 July 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya. Hockey At The 2006 Commonwealth Games – Women's Tournament
Women's field hockey at the 2006 Commonwealth Games took place between 16 March and 25 March. The competition consisted of a round robin stage of two groups of five with the winners and runners-up of each group qualifying for the semifinals. All matches were played at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in the Parkville area of Melbourne. The Gold medal was won by Australia, who defeated 2002 champions India 1 – 0 in the final. England won the bronze medal by defeating New Zealand 3 – 1 on penalty strokes. 2022 Women's Hockey Africa Cup Of Nations
The 2022 Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations was the eighth edition of the Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of Africa organised by the African Hockey Federation. In February 2021 it was announced that the tournament would be held alongside the men's tournament at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra, Ghana from 17 to 23 January 2022. South Africa were the six-time defending champions, winning the 2017 edition. They successfully defended their title after being Ghana in the final. The winner qualified for the 2022 Women's FIH Hockey World Cup.
