The Nigeria men's national field hockey team represents Nigeria in international men's field hockey competitions. The team were awarded bronze at the 1987 All-Africa Games. Nigeria Hockey Federation
The Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) is the governing body of field hockey in Nigeria. It is affiliated to IHF International Hockey Federation and AHF African Hockey Federation. The headquarter of NHF is in Abuja, Nigeria. Engineer Obadiah Simon Nkom is the President of NHF and Chimezie Asiegbu is the Secretary General. FIH is a governing body, which is responsible for certifying a Hockey Field/Ground. Currently there are no FIH Certified Fields in Nigeria. The Nigeria Hockey men's national team made history in January at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana finishing third at the tournament after a 4-2 win against Kenya. 2009 Men's Hockey Africa Cup Of Nations
The 2009 Men's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations was the eighth edition of the Men's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, the quadrennial international men's field hockey championship of Africa organised by the African Hockey Federation. It was held alongside the women's tournament in Accra, Ghana from 10 to 16 July 2009. The four-time defending champions South Africa won their fifth title and qualified for the 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup by defeating Egypt 4–1 in the final. The hosts Ghana won the bronze medal by defeating Nigeria 3–2 after extra time. 2016–17 Men's FIH Hockey World League
The 2016–17 Men's FIH Hockey World League was the third edition of the men's field hockey national team league series and last season of the World League. The tournament started in April 2016 in Singapore and finished in December 2017 in Bhubaneswar, India. The Semifinals of this competition will also serve as a qualifier for the 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup as the 10/11 highest placed teams apart from the host nation and the five continental champions qualify. Australia won the tournament's Final round for a record second time after defeating Argentina 2–1 in the final match. India won the third place match by defeating Germany 2–1. From 2019 onwards, the tournament was replaced by Pro League. The tournament started in August 2012 in Prague, Czech Republic and finished in January 2014 in New Delhi, India. The 2019 Men's African Olympic Qualifier was the fourth edition of the African qualification tournament for the men's field hockey event at the Summer Olympics. It was held alongside the women's tournament in Stellenbosch, South Africa from 12 to 18 August 2019. The winner of the tournament qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics. 2015 African Olympic Qualifier (field Hockey)
The 2015 African Olympic Qualifier was the third edition of the African Olympic Qualifier for Men and Women. It was held from 23 October to 1 November 2015 in Randburg, South Africa. Nine teams competed in the men's and seven in the women's tournament. The winner of the tournament qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics. On 30 October South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) published a statement reiterating that it will not consider qualifying though the continental qualifying tournament acceptable. SASCOC and the South African Hockey Association had previously specified 2014-15 FIH Hockey World League as the only Olympic selection route for the South Africa men's and women's national field hockey teams. The 2007 African Olympic Qualifier was the first edition of the African field hockey qualification tournament for the Summer Olympics for men and women. It was held from 14 to 22 July 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya.
