Nigeria Customs (basketball)
Nigeria Customs, also known simply as Customs, is a Nigerian basketball team based in Lagos. It is the basketball team of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and they play in the Nigerian Premier League, the top-level division of basketball in the country. Nicknamed the "Border Boys", Customs made their debut on the continental level during the Zone 3 qualifiers for the 2016 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup. The men's team have been runners-up of the Premier League twice: in 2016 and 2022. Customs won the Mark D Basketball Tournament in 2022. The women's team won the Zenith Basketball League in 2023, and played at the 2023 Africa Women's Basketball League. Nigerian Premier League (basketball)
The Nigerian Premier Basketball League, often abbreviated to the NPL, is the pre-eminent men's professional basketball league in Nigeria. The league consists of sixteen teams who are categorized into two conferences based on the geographical location. These conferences are Savannah and the Atlantic. The league was sponsored by the DSTV until 2017, who had both title and TV rights through the contract agreement. The league was then referred to as the DSTV Premier Basketball League. Format The league usually spans from March till mid year. Each team plays a total of 14 games in a regular season after which the top four teams qualify for the Final Eight Playoffs which usually takes place at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is an independent customs service under the supervisory oversight of the Nigerian Ministry of Finance, responsible for the collection of customs revenue, Facilitation of both national and international trade and anti-smuggling activities. The 2016 FIBA Africa Basketball Club Championship (31st edition), was an international basketball tournament held in Cairo, Egypt from December 7 to 16, 2016. The 2022 NBBF Premier League was the 21st season of the Nigerian Premier League, the top division of professional basketball in Nigeria. Zenith Women Basketball League
The National Women Basketball League, known as Zenith Women Basketball League for sponsorship reasons is the top-level women's basketball club competition in Nigeria. It is the women's version of Nigeria Premier League organized by the Nigeria Basketball Federation. The league also determines the Nigerian representatives at FIBA Africa Women's Clubs Champions Cup. History The league started with five teams, however the number grew to eighteen by 2017. The league has been sponsored by Zenith Bank since 2004. In 2017, after the expiration of the contract agreement between NBBF and Zenith Bank, the banking institution renewed the terms of the negotiation with bigger winning bonus for the teams.
